1982

Greetings and salutations from the West Coast: Matt Foehr checks in with news about an appointment. He was named vice president and comptroller of Chevron Corp., the second-largest U.S.-based petro company. Matt joined Chevron immediately after graduating from Kellogg, and progressed through an interesting career path there, including vice president of finance, global exploration and production; vice president of finance, global refining and marketing; manager of investor relations and assistant treasurer, banking and cash management. Matt and his wife Jane, an avid quilter, live in the San Francisco Bay area with their daughters Lauren (who begins a master’s program at UC-Santa Barbara) and Emma (a freshman at the University of Colorado in Boulder, majoring in engineering).

David Ing wrote about his European adventures in early spring. He still lives in Toronto and remains with IBM with consultative presales for software throughout North America. Congratulations to David, who joined IBM’s prestigious Quarter Century Club (a 25-year tenure).

During a European trip back in April, David shares that he became a “volcanic ash-cloud refugee.” On a trip from Vienna to Frankfort to Manchester (he never made it to the U.K.), his Lufthansa flights were disrupted, and after two days of hotels, he took a train to Brussels for a visit with Pierre Osterrieth.

David tells us that Pierre left Singapore last year after many years in the country and moved to Brussels. Pierre himself was impacted by cancelled flights. He and David now photoblog their travels, and we hope to enjoy a sampling soon.

Etsuko Nakajima and David met in Tokyo for a visit. She stays in touch, and though “retired,” is enjoying a reunion with a high school friend (owner of a wine shop), who has helped Etsuko expand her network of chefs and restaurateurs. Etsuko plans to spend three months in Spain.

John J. Short was named interim executive vice president and chief executive officer of Our Lady of the Resurrection Medical Center in Chicago, an acute-care medical center offering emergency and general medical and surgical services. John has more than 25 years of healthcare operational and strategic management experience in acute, ambulatory and post-acute settings. John had served as senior vice president of operations and chief operating officer at Resurrection Medical Center in Chicago.
