Ananda Baron and Aaron Schweifler got hitched on April 4 in Mill Valley, Calif. The two '07 Bucketheads met on the first day of school and quickly became more than just sectionmates. A veritable who's who of '07 revelers came from near and far to celebrate with the happy couple. Wedding weekend festivities included a bay cruise, hiking in Marin, and a wedding-day yoga class. Namaste! Aaron and Ananda reside in San Francisco, where they work at Sports Basement and Pacific Gas & Electric, respectively.

April 2009 was a popular month to be married. Laura Jensen and Brad Gurasich wed in their adopted hometown of Austin, Texas on April 25. Laura writes: "We were so honored to have wonderful friends from Kellogg there, including Meredith Papp, Ananda (Baron) Schweifler, Aaron Schweifler, Joanna Hamilton, John Hamilton '05, Mark Himmelsbach, Annie Himmelsbach, Ben McConahey, Matt Ziser and Nic Eliason. Nic was a groomsman and was one of Brad's best friends from undergrad at Notre Dame. After an incredible wedding weekend in Austin, Brad and I headed to South Africa for 10 days and visited Cape Town and the Winelands before finishing off the trip with an incredible safari." Sounds like a pretty sweet honeymoon!
Anye Roth wrote, "Serg Deana and I were married at the Mission Inn Hotel on March 28 in Riverside, Calif, which is my hometown. It was a beautiful ceremony and reception and we enjoyed having all of our family and friends there to celebrate with us, including the BVI Pirates and other Kellogg friends. Of course there was dancing and singing to Bon Jovi. Jay Choi took center stage in a pair of shiny Converse (we look forward to seeing his gold ones someday too). As Serg would say, our day was a 'great success!'"
A belated note came from Zubin Vandrevala. He married Asmita Rao on Dec. 21 in Chennai, India. Tarun Arora and Mithun Sundar were in Chennai for the festivities.
One of my Moose sectionmates, Eddie Meder, sent in this item: "My wife Jennifer gave birth to a beautiful baby girl on April 9. Lucy Claire Meder and mom are both healthy and doing great, and dad is as proud as he can be of both of his girls. At birth, Lucy was 7 pounds, 5 ounces and 20 inches long. It's been a whirlwind couple of weeks so far, but the adjustment to parenthood has been a phenomenal experience. We still have a lot to learn, but we are very much looking forward to the journey ahead of us."
Maria Dominguez Crivelli writes: "My husband, Facundo Azurmendi, and I had a baby on March 30. His name is Facundo and he weighed almost 4.7 kilograms when he was born!" For all of you metric-system users out there, that's more than 10 pounds. The family had been living in Manhattan until December, but they escaped the cold New York winter by permanently relocating to Buenos Aires, where Maria is from.
Mike Jakymiw and his wife also welcomed a child. Their second little one is named Callen.
Deepak Jha writes: "We were blessed with a baby daughter in late February. Her name is Adithi Magnolia Jha. She is the brightest ray in my life."
Alexander "Sasha" Kupriyanov writes in with an assortment of news, including a new baby and a new job. He and his wife, Suzanne Daly-Kupriyanov, welcomed a son, Oscar, on May 5, 2008. Oscar was born in Boston but the family has since moved to London, where they enjoyed a visit from Tibor Friedrich last winter.
Sasha also writes: "After a year and a half with Barclays in London, I was appointed head of commercial credit for Barclays Russia. This appointment, announced by Barclays CEO Frits Seegers in April, was the first-ever graduation from Barclays' leadership development track, the Global Leaders Program. My family and I will move to Moscow in June and I'm looking forward to taking on this international assignment."
Mark Frank also sent in an update to bring us up to speed on the changes in his life. He writes: "My wife Jen and I had a baby boy in January 2008. Ethan is growing up now and walking and talking with the best of them. We enjoyed living in Chicago for the two years following graduation, but I decided that investment banking was not for me and left at the end of March for a more entrepreneurial opportunity in Denver.
"I am the chief administrative officer and minority owner of Denver CyberKnife, a non-invasive radiation therapy center that treats tumors in the brain, spine, lungs, liver, prostate, pancreas and kidneys. By early May (after six weeks on the job) I hired five employees, and we started treating patients in the first week of June. Check out the Web site at denverck.com. We miss Chicago and all of our friends there but are excited to be back in Colorado and embarking on this new adventure."
In other career-related news, Dave Hegarty spent April and much of May in China on a pair of Microsoft-related business trips. He also launched hollrr.com, a Web site that uses social networking to get the word out about new products from small companies. Follow the company on Twitter and tumblr — just search for hollr. Not sure what's going on with Web sites missing vowels, but apparently it's all the rage. Hegs relocated to San Francisco from Seattle.
Carolyn Starrett moved to San Francisco and was spotted apartment-hunting during Bay to Breakers weekend. She'll continue working for BCG after the big move from Los Angeles.
Glenn Pappalardo has been living in New York for the past couple of years but accepted a transfer back to the Windy City. He started work in the Chicago office of PriceWaterhouseCoopers this summer and is looking forward to being in the same city as many old Kellogg friends.
Sharif Siddiqui dropped me a quick note to let the class know that he is moving from Chicago to New York but will remain with Citadel Investment Group. His new role will involve helping the fund launch a new equities platform.
After a great journey with Booz & Company, Gal Tunik is exploring career options in the Bay Area.
And last but not least, an item totally unrelated to weddings, babies, or jobs. Liam Krehbiel provided an update on a "mostly-Moose" reunion trip to Atlanta. He writes: "Shahab Vagefi, Alex Vargas, Matt Raino, Andy Copilevitz and his wife Laura, Josh Palacios and the Krehbiel family spent 48 glorious hours in Hotlanta with Erik Wist and his wife Alisha. After getting the grand tour of Casa del Wist, which includes five bedrooms, a guesthouse, an enormous backyard, tiki torches and a scale replica of Stonewall Jackson's mausoleum, we began to soak up the nuances of Southern living. Among the highlights were a seersucker barbecue party, a 10-hour 'Dartmouth' pong tournament (Raindance and I were victorious over Shabob and AV in a thrilling final), visits to Vortex and the Pink Pony, and the consumption of a professional-grade Turducken (which is a de-boned chicken inside a duck inside a turkey with two layers of sausage lining) for good measure. I have no intention of ever going back to that city again, but dammit if I didn't have one heck of a good time."
And if that doesn't sum up the last few months, I don't know what does. Keep sending me updates of all of your good times. If you don't, you know that I'll find you anyway… |
