2002
— Part-Time Not only has TMP 2002 been doing a fine job weathering the slings and arrows of this outrageous economy, lots of you also are doing some very interesting things.
Last fall Ashish Kaul accepted a position as turnaround CEO of Turners Outdoorsman, the largest hunting, fishing and shooting sporting goods retail chain in California. The company is bucking the trend in the overall retail recession but the credit crunch is creating challenges. He hopes to have the company recapitalized and turn the corner soon.
Steve Pinedo joined Oracle as vice president of customer services marketing after BEA Systems was acquired by Oracle in spring 2008. Steve, wife Jen, daughter Siena and son Camden continue to make their home in Danville, Calif.
Heather Herbst and Arun Subramanian were married in August. They are living and working in the Bay Area, where Heather is a manager in advisory services for PwC and Arun is vice president and regional director for the Asia-Pacific at Gain Capital-Forex.com.
Jon Phillips reports: "My wife Ellen and I welcomed our first child, Henry James, into this world on Feb. 26. We moved from Lincoln Park to south suburban Frankfort. I'm still at Bank of America as a senior vice president in commercial lending."
Julie (Docken) Ali is vice president of operations for Northern Trust Securities Inc. and continues to make her home in Chicago with husband Lamar and daughter Maya.
Ogi Redzic has been living in Singapore the last few years, where he is vice president of sales and business development for Asia Pacific at NAVTEQ.
Matt Hays has been with CNA since 2002 where he is a senior director with the global specialty department. Matt, wife Mary and children Owen and Ava live in Western Springs, Ill.
Meryl Weinstein is still with Cardinal Health, but relocated to Dublin, Ohio, from Dallas about 18 months ago. Meryl is the vice president of strategy management/business transformation for the Medical Segment. Meryl and Rachel (3) are enjoying their return to the Midwest.
Nishea V. Clark reports: "Just celebrated my seventh year as owner/consultant for NVC Consulting LLC in New York. My beautiful baby girl Taylor just turned 2. My Columbia Business School alum husband Charles just celebrated his 10-year reunion. I also am working with pharmaceutical and financial services clients, and an amazing little alternative energy startup with a bunch of my Northwestern undergrad classmates, so keeping my fingers crossed!"
Heather Daas is working as a senior project director at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in business development and planning.
Demos Tantalidis is in Charlotte, N.C., where he is a senior enterprise architect with IBM Global Business Services.
Brian Contat says: "I continue to work at Eaton Automotive as a product strategy manager in our torque control products division, located in Southfield, Mich. We are working on a variety of exciting projects in a difficult market environment. My wife Stacie and I just celebrated the arrival of our third child, Jacob Edward, on April 17. Life is very busy!"
Chris Rooney has launched Digital Bridge Solutions (dbridgesolutions.com), a technology services company focused on helping small and medium-sized businesses utilize technology to improve marketing, operations and accounting processes. Chris would love to hear what's new with his TMP classmates and can be contacted at chris.rooney@dbridgesolutions.com.
John Vosicky has been a busy man these days, but not too busy to give back to his community. John took over as coach of the Mortini Catholic High School men's basketball team in Lombard, Ill.
As for myself, (Tiny McLaughlin) I am doing some work with Sumeet Kapoor '01 and Stan Menezes EMP-59 to build out a government services division for Stan's well-established IT consulting and staffing firm, Lycon Technologies. I also have taken on a part-time business development role with The Incentis Group, a national practice for business incentives and tax credits negotiation and structuring. Both have been great, but as my wife Peg regularly reminds me – the stability of a full-time position with benefits is a good thing. So if you know of anyone who needs a very tall and bald Kellogg MBA with a penchant for networking, give me a call.
Finally, if this economy has not been kind to you (believe me I understand that firsthand) and you are looking for work, please send me an e-mail and I will get the word out to the rest of TMP 2002. Remember, we are all in this together and need to look out for one another. And finally, PLEASE KEEP THOSE UPDATES COMING!
