Jon Neuhaus writes: "I've been fortunate to be working as a partner on a great team in private wealth management in the family office group at Citi Smith Barney (aka Morgan Stanley Private Wealth Management Group). Still single, I spend time when not at work with friends at Yankee Stadium, Lambeau Field or Ben & Jack's in New York; at the beach in Hermosa, or working with City Year. Classmates are invited to Hermosa for cookouts — I reference my Lambeau Field tailgating recipe in the Kellogg Cookbook — and beach time!"
Ana (Villegas) Laphen enjoyed getting together with a group of 2002 and 2003 Kellogg alums and spouses while visiting Miami in March. The gathering included classmates Florencia Cerosimo, Diego Tarantino and Sandra Holme.
Jim and Carly (Loveman) Lutz welcomed their son Sean Francis Lutz into the world May 9. Sean's sister Cecelia (2) was happy to meet her new brother, saying, "He has a nice hat."
Arnaud Erhard and Silvia Schuh married on July 19, 2008 in the company of Marjan Oman, wife Nadine and sons Pavels and Andrej. Arnaud and Silvia also announce the birth of their son Benjamin, born on Nov. 25.
David Cohen was married to Kristin Argo on Jan. 18. The wedding took place in Puerto Aventuras, Mexico. Congrats, DC!
Ara and Erika (Haendel) Weiss celebrated the birth of their daughter Kaia Charlie on Feb. 20. She weighed in at a healthy 8 pounds, 1 ounce. Erika shares, "I love being a mom and am enjoying every moment of my maternity leave before returning to work at Fox in late June."
Blayn (Barnard) Jackson writes: "My son Zachary Sterling Jackson was born Jan. 31. He joins big brother Mitchell (6) and big sister Hannah (4)."
Kiley, Huckleberry, Langley and Jim Fields welcomed the newest member of their family, Boelyn Piper Fields, on May 16. Kiley and Boelyn are both doing great. Huck and Langley are very excited to look after their new baby sister. Jim shared the vitals for Boelyn: Most surprisingly, she is a baby girl (nearly everyone predicted a boy)! She was born at 7 pounds, 7 ounces and 20.3 inches long and her second toes are long, just like dad's ("a sign of intelligence, or so they say").
This past year has been a busy one for Jill Carter. Her family moved to the Boston area in the fall and on Feb. 24 welcomed a daughter — Brooke Simone Carter — to their family. Brooke is doing great and Liam loves being a big brother. She writes, "We are enjoying life in New England and are looking forward to seeing some of the Kellogg grads in the area."
In his biannual update, Dave Meierding jovially reports Mika's healthy delivery of their second son, Benjamin Shinnosuke, on July 22, 2008. Dave nearly induced early labor, though, when he phoned Mika in the middle of the night in May last year to convey that Chengdu, China (where he was on temporary assignment) "just had a rather strong earthquake." Although he returned unscathed to the San Francisco Bay Area several weeks later, Mika requested that he kindly increase his life insurance. Never a family to stay long in one place, the itinerant foursome moved to Bangkok at the beginning of 2009 for Dave's new finance position with Chevron. Their first son Will delights at seeing elephants marching up the street, and they've all enjoyed beach holidays along the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand.
Tarik Rodgers shares a lot of exciting news: "It's been a busy year for the Rodgers family (nope, no kids yet). We made a move from the NJ/NYC area to Dallas for the low cost of living, warm weather (OK HOT!), and great career prospects. We have been pleased to start connecting with other Kellogg/NU grads locally. Our latest project was buying and renovating a house in north Dallas that we moved into. The location makes for an easy commute to my day job in downtown Dallas at a start-up consulting company in the green energy field, Geavista Group Inc. It is also an easy commute to the dermatology practice we opened in Allen called Skin Specialists of Allen. Tanya has the privilege of being the only dermatologist in town, and I run the business side as my 'second job.' We love that we have been able to connect with other alums at Cindy Carey's and Michelle Awuku's weddings, an annual Vegas trip and on Facebook. Now that we have the huge house, we may consider popping out little ones."
Grant Jordan and his wife, Claire, welcomed their fourth child, Sydney Claire, on March 10. Sydney joins her older siblings, Preston (6), Bailey (5) and Calder (2). Grant has survived the financial turmoil so far and is a managing director with Wells Fargo/Wachovia in High Yield Research covering retail, consumer products and technology companies. They live in Charlotte, N.C.
Michelle (Beels) Lorge and husband Eric welcomed their second son, Ryan, on Oct. 17. Ryan joins big brother Tyler (3) and dad in their quest to educate mom on all things related to sports, trucks and dinosaurs!
Sarah and Eric Smyth welcomed a baby boy, Owen Robert Smyth, on Nov. 24. He weighed 8 pounds, 9 ounces and was 19 3/4 inches long. He joined big sister Grace (5) and big brother Will (3) at home in Park City, Utah. Eric writes: "We are all doing well and as I write this, baby Owen is rolling all over the place now!"
Andy Whitaker shares: "We moved in December to Sherri's home town (Hilliard, Fla.) just north of Jacksonville, Fla., where Jonathan (4) and Jackson (3) love being so close to Grandma, Grandpa and many cousins. Sherri recently went back to work at the YMCA three days a week, and Jonathan is playing his first year of soccer. I'm in my fourth year as vice president of Florida Cypress Wood Products, a small firm in Jax specializing in harvesting, sawing and manufacturing cypress logs from the swamps in central Florida. Many of these trees were well over 1,000 years old when felled to the swamp bottoms. We love Florida and plan to stay a while."
Quick fun bit of trivia from Nancy Kulik: "I'm started working for Point B, a Project Leadership consulting firm in Chicago. Shortly after I started, we hired Eileen Hart, a 6Q 2002 grad – who I didn't know! In an office of eight people, 25 percent of our employees are 2002 grads. Of course, Eileen and I love working together and share a lot of friends – Kellogg is a small world."
Catherine Vaughn married Markus Deutsch in New York at St. Patrick's Old Cathedral and held their reception at Tribeca Rooftop. They had a strong showing from our Kellogg classmates! Johnette (Kao) Johnson, Claire Lundin, Tindley Gilbert '03 and Samantha (Barnes) Christensen '03 were all bridesmaids.
But it isn't just wedding bells for Catherine. She has been really busy. As she shares: "I realize it has been a while since I sent in an update, so in other news, I'm in my fourth year at Highbridge Capital Management, a $20 billion hedge fund, where I'm a managing director responsible for business development and product strategy. I travel a lot for work, including frequent trips to Europe and the Middle East; my husband Markus is Austrian and also travels to Europe for work, so we have enjoyed traveling together whenever possible.
"I also had the opportunity to participate in the Kellogg Centennial Conference in New York in March as a speaker on a panel addressing the future of capital markets. Professor David Stowell organized the panel, and my fellow panelists included Kent Daniel, Frank Jordan and Jim Neary."
