Art Wood retired at the end of May after 34 years at Northern Trust. He continues as an ambassador for Northern in Chicago and Sarasota, Fla., where he spent 12 years as Northern's CEO there. He remains on a number of boards, including the Chicago Botanic Garden, Lake Forest Hospital, the Lake County Community Foundation and the School of the Art Institute. He also plans to play a lot of golf with Kevin Phillips and Pat Hackett. Art's daughter Daisy graduated from Princeton in June and daughter Abby will graduate next year.
After more than 30 years in corporate life, most recently as the vice president of sales and marketing for Hickory Hardware, John Pelka started his own business selling decorative cabinet hardware on the Internet. The Web site, designerknobsandpulls.com, took three months to build and it has grown 300 percent per month during the first four months. In addition, he has been profitable from the first month. He is really enjoying this new business and all the opportunities it offers. It's a great time to be an entrepreneur with a Kellogg pedigree!
Greg Kravitt's son Josh will be graduating in June with honors from the McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas. This summer, he is planning to prepare for the GMATs while also looking for a job. And after a few years of business experience, he hopes to attend Kellogg, just like his old man (that's about the only thing he would like to do that his father also did). This fall, Greg's daughter Rachel will attend the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis to pursue her master's degree in occupational therapy.
