After some thought and discussion with the family of our late classmate Allen Menard, Sonny Bal wants to set up an "Allen Menard Leadership Award" to be given to the one graduating resident in the Orthopaedic Surgery Residency Training Program at the University of Missouri in Columbia, Mo. The recipient of this annual award will be the graduating resident who best exemplifies the human qualities that we all found so attractive in Allen. The purpose of the award will be to recognize the value of professional integrity, personal ethics and morals, emotional intelligence, and the other intangibles that made Allen so likable.

Sonny is committed to starting the fund with a generous donation to a special foundation at the University of Missouri-Columbia for this purpose. The goal is to set up a perpetuity at the university that can generate about $500-$1,000 per year to fund the award, and a certificate of award.
