1998
— Full-Time
Hello
98ers, I guess it was a long cold winter and news was in small
supply. Hence, the column this issue is petite but perfectly
formed. Enjoy!
Jim
Patterson and his wife, Shannon '99, have returned from
12 months of travel and climbing including a trek up Mt. Everest.
Carrie
and Dain Bussewitz welcomed Brennan Andrew Bussewitz
on April 26. "He weighed 7 pounds, 2 ounces. All are
happy and adjusting to two boys in diapers."
Chris
Tomseth writes: "I don't think I've sent an update
since fall, but I have been living in Dubai for about six
months. I'm managing international growth for Dnata, the largest
travel agency in the Middle East. It's a fun assignment so
far, and I've traveled to all kinds of places including Kazakhstan
(unfortunately, Borat was away while I was there). Even when
I don't travel, Dubai has lots to offer — including
indoor skiing when it's too hot to go to the beach. In March
we had the first-ever Kellogg GIM trip here. My family now
includes four, as we welcomed Alexander Austin Tomseth late
last fall just before we moved. Angelina (5) is a wonderful
big sister to Alex. We welcome visitors, and have already
had Read Flake and his wife come visit."

Andrew
Calderwood sent in this note. "On October 7 the Kellogg
Rugby Football Club (KRFC) hosted an alumni reunion. The students
played their first game of the season versus the alumni team
and together we raised $5,000 for the Alex Boag Sarcoma
Fund and the Steve Moon '01 Foundation. Representing the '98
alumni were Scott Gardner, Ian Harris, Andrew
Calderwood, Scott Hauncher, Kyle Ford, Christian
Hackett and Jim Reddinger. We were joined by alumni
from other years, including Kevin Weinstein '99, George Robbins
'99, Brent Lewis '96, Gareth Taylor '01, Paul Wormley '06,
Mike Brodnik '01, Rob Crisp '04, Joe Taylor '00, Doug Wolfe
'06, Chris Tucker '03, John Fleming '01 and Dave Baker '02.
"The
weekend began Friday night at Pete Miller's bar when a blackout
shut down most of Evanston at 10 p.m. Unable to check into
the Best Western, we were forced to bar-hop around North Clark
until power was restored. A hardy few who ventured to the
Deuce recognized that our game preparation may have been less
than adequate. A few hours later, spectators of the match
on the Lakefill would have noticed the alumni carrying considerably
more ice, Advil and bandages than our student hosts. Evanston
turned on magnificent weather as the alumni played valiantly
and called on long-unused muscle groups for the game. However,
lack of fitness, rapidly deteriorating skills and numerous
other excuses saw us lose a close match four tries to one.
The students later hosted the alumni for award drinks and
a charity auction in Evanston before we all headed downtown
for a giant team dinner.
"The
remainder of Saturday night resembled Friday night with KRFC
alumni reliving past glories; not much has changed since '98,
only the stories have gotten taller. Naturally we ended the
evening at "the deuce" before flying out later that
Sunday morning with all insisting on a return for the '07
alumni game. The KRFC has tentatively planned another reunion
match in early October, so rugby alumni are forewarned and
have no excuses. Further details can be obtained by e-mailing
current student Ryan Miller at rmiller2008@kellogg.northwestern.edu."
John
Banczak let us know that Heather not only went
to one of the shows, but was on TV. You can see her at http://youtube.com/watch?v=Mz_aR5MJfgU.
"She is quite a star these days, also appearing on Tori
Spelling's new reality show. While she is running around Hollywood,
I'm taking care of our baby girl, Devyn. We are still in San
Francisco, and spend about half our time in Austin, Texas,
these days for my job."
