Andrea Saia has been named to the newly created position of chief operating officer at CIBA Vision, the eye-care unit of Novartis. In this new role, several key functions within CIBA Vision will report directly to her, including all regional operations, global supply chain, research and development and marketing. She joined CIBA Vision in April 2002 as the global head of marketing, and was soon promoted to president of CIBA Vision's global lens business. In January 2005, she became the head of CIBA Vision's Europe, Middle East and Africa region, where her team delivered outstanding results on every measure —market share, sales, and profit — in a very competitive market. She built a strengthened organization and stepped up the region's sales and marketing capabilities.
