2002
Hello,
class of 2002! Thank you all for sending such great news.
We are glad to hear everyone is doing well. Some of you have
told us that you aren't getting our e-mail asking for news.
If you are one of these people, go to the Kellogg Web site
and update your info. This is the best way to stay in touch
and share your exciting news with your interested classmates.
So with that, we'll get onto the news with weddings first.
Congratulations to all of the couples!
Mitch
Tobias married Kim
Petrilli on Aug. 6 in Arlington Heights, Ill. Helping them
celebrate their new beginning were Emi and Mike Dowhan; Sarah and Eric Smyth; Jennifer and Chip Sterrett;
Doug and Eileen Hart;
and Lisa and Steve Seaney '01. In preparation for married
life, the couple ran their first half-marathon before the
wedding. However, after celebrating their honeymoon in Rivera
Maya, Mexico, and few months of settling in, a 5-mile run
seems scary. Mitch is adjusting well from the single life
to a full house with soon-to-be-adopted 2-year-old Andrew
and a 4-year-old chocolate lab (Daisy). They live in Oswego,
Ill., just west of Naperville, and would love visitors.
Samantha
Levine and Neil Segall were married April 9 in Denver. Their
ceremony and reception were held at the Denver Center for
the Performing Arts. Many Kellogg friends where there to help
them celebrate, including: Myles Presler '03, Steve
Pockross, Leti Pearman
'03, Ben Mahnke '03, Mandy Taft '03 and Megan Lewis.
Priya
Rajagopalan married Harish Devarajan in a traditional
South Indian wedding. Other festivities included mehendi (henna),
a sangeet program (dance/music) and a beach party! All Kellogg
guests had a blast experiencing South Indian traditions.
Babies!
Babies! Babies! We have quite a few little Kellogg kids joining
our family:
Mike
Dowhan and his wife Emi welcomed new daughter Sadie Rose
Dowhan to the world on Aug. 15.
Sean
Wischmeier writes:
"We recently had our third child. Our daughter Sydnee
(4) and son Tristan (3) now have a new baby sister, Whitley
Wischmeier, born in December. I am happy to entertain/accommodate
anyone coming into town for Indianapolis 500, Brickyard 400
or U.S. Grand Prix." Sometimes it seems like it was only
yesterday that we were all in study rooms (or not in study
rooms) at Kellogg, and then classmates with three kids remind
us of how long it has really been since our last year at Kellogg.
Wow! Congrats, Sean!
Hitomi
and Shinya Naka welcomed Emily into the world Jan.
5. They celebrated the birth of their second daughter with
sister Karen at the Shrine in Tokyo.
Loyd
Henderson and his wife Kelly welcomed son Drew Beck on
Feb. 10. He joins his 2-year-old sisters, Tai and Sydney.
The Henderson family lives in the New York City area and Loyd
is working with the mezzanine debt fund of Oaktree Capital
Management.
Dan
Gingiss and wife Jodi '03 are thrilled to announce the
birth of their son, Mark Tanner Gingiss, on Feb. 13. Mark
is already working on his Kellogg application for the Class
of 2035, where he hopes to meet his future wife (Class of
'36?)! Ah, like father, like son. They're sure to save a spot
for him in Special K, too.
Carolina
Nardy and Ricardo Dalmas have just been visited
by the stork! Ian Dalmas was born on March 23, weighing 8
lbs., 13 oz. The cute baby has already taught his parents
that there is a job that offers less sleep than consulting,
but they are loving it nonetheless.
Mike
Castellarin and wife Merianne are excited to announce
that their son Connor Mitchell Castellarin was born March
27 at 8 lbs., 9 oz., and was welcomed into the world by his
big sister Rachel (who wanted to know why Connor could not
hold or play with any of her toys). The Castellarins are well
(not resting though) in Toronto and would love to hear from
Kellogg friends. We want to thank Mike for converting Connor's
weight into pounds and ounces for us south-of-the-border classmates.
Those Canadians are always so thoughtful.
Don
Pillsbury and his wife Skye are the new proud parents
of a baby boy. Clark Pillsbury was born on May 11, weighing
in at 7 lbs, 7 oz. Mom, Dad and Clark are happy and doing
well in San Francisco.
Here
are some more great updates:
J.T.
Fitzgerald and Dan Campbell have been quite busy with their private equity search
fund that they founded upon graduation from Kellogg, Argo
Management Partners. The recently acquired Hunter Manufacturing
Group Inc. ("Hunter") from its founder. Hunter is
a leading manufacturer of high-quality licensed sports collectibles.
While the existing management team will continue to operate
Hunter, Dan will serve as chief executive officer and J.T.
as chief development officer. We're sure they would appreciate
as many calls as possible that go something like this: "Hey,
man. I think I might have had stats class with you. Can you
get me a [insert extremely valuable sports collectible here]?"

Eric Smyth, Mike Dowhan, Chip Sterrett and Eileen Hart (all '02) along with their spouses help celebrate Kim's and Mitch Tobias's '02 wedding along with some Duke friends. |

We
were really hoping to keep a continuous streak going of classmates
who have enjoyed trips organized by Jim Lutz's company,
but to no avail. We were doing well for a while and think
we should make it a goal to make this the last issue where
we have no such adventures to announce. These trips are great
for Kellogg World articles because they show the supportive
Kellogg spirit that we all love and exotic travel tales always
make for fun news. So, everyone do your part in helping us
reach our goal and check out vayaadventures.com.
Luckily,
Aaron Levine has shared an exciting international travel
story to make us envious in the meantime. He writes: "In
October, my wife Annie and I traveled for two weeks through
Vietnam, backpacking in northwestern Vietnam near China, sleeping
on wooden junk boats in Haalong Bay, and spending time in
the very cool cities of Hoi An and Hanoi.

"We
spent the winter in San Diego, suffering through the chilly
65-degree winter months, and are looking forward to our next
trip — to Argentina — in August."
Aaron
also shares: "Since joining SkinMedica, a start-up pharmaceutical
company in San Diego, I've been managing some interesting
prescription products. One was Vaniqa for the treatment of
unwanted facial hair in women, and I launched a new drug,
NeoBenz Micro, for the treatment of acne. Pretty sexy products,
I know."
Ed
and Ashley Stubbins (both '02) have moved to the
O.C. Ed has taken a job as a vice president in institutional
marketing with PIMCO in Newport Beach, Calif., and Ashley
has transferred with Coca-Cola to their Irvine, Calif., office
to do marketing with a division that focuses on independent
restaurants. The couple now has an ocean view at their new
place in Corona Del Mar. Ed also recently received his CFA
designation. Luckily, Ashley is way too smart and sane to
become a "Real Desperate Housewife of the O.C."
(For those of you who do not get this reference, good for
you. For those who do, it is Julie, not Natalie, who has this
completely addicting and absurd Bravo show ranked first on
her DVR record list. Anyone else going through withdrawal
since the finale is welcome to contact her.)
Neal
Freeland writes: "Still at Microsoft and enjoying
it. Working on new Windows Live brand. Lots of stuff coming
out this summer and fall. Family now includes Amelia, our
9-month-old daughter. She was born with a few heart defects
but after surgery last fall is doing great. If interested,
see the details on my blog at spaces.msn.com/members/nealfreeland.
Look for the links under "Amelia's story."
We
look forward to any and all news anytime, but thought we would
try something different this time and ask for some specific
additional news items:
Have
you been with the same employer since Kellogg? Tell us about
it. People only seem to write us about major transitions,
so it would be great to diversify.
Have
you had an eerie life-imitates-case-study experience? You
know what we are talking about. You are having a normal day
and all of a sudden something happens that is straight out
of a case study from Kellogg and you have a major flashback.
That is the kind of thing we'd love to hear.
What
is the most interesting/unexpected place you've run into a
Kellogg classmate? Great Wall of China? The men's room at
The Staples Center? Match.com?
We
always have to end on a ridiculous personal anecdote. Julie
was recently on a conference call representing Cheetos' Chester
Cheetah, who just received the dubious honor of being a nominee
for the Advertising Icon Walk of Fame. During the "icon
roll call," none other than Rob Persaud was on
the line representing The Quaker Man. Well, the competition
was already fierce with months of campaigning about to begin.
But now there is a second title at stake: "Top Advertising
Icon of Kellogg Class of 2002." Rob, The Quaker Man is
going down! Ah, the life of brand management. You finance
folks must be jealous. Natalie sure is.
Have
a great summer everyone! Looking forward to hearing from you. |
