EMP-46 class members returned to campus to mark their fifth anniversary of graduation. |
EMP-46
During
Reunion 2005, a number of classmates had the opportunity to
return to Kellogg. The Dean's vision of the future of the
Kellogg School was inspiring, it was great to sit in a classroom
again and to be educated by the best professors in the business
world, and as always, the food was wonderful. The day ended
with a very special event at the Allen Center, in which Julie,
Bernie and Erica once again proved they are the glue that
holds the EMP family together. As much as things have changed
(including our body shapes, hairlines and job descriptions),
the sense of family has not.
Susan
Andrews sends her regards
from Madison, Wis., where she is busy after taking an "off
ramp." Please see the Harvard Business Review
for further details.
A
change for Alan Burack, who recently moved from
a consulting role with Freedom Home Care to director of marketing
and business development. This leading Highland Park-based
provider of "private-duty" home care services employs
certified nurses aides, personal care assistants and caregiver/companions
who are bonded, licensed and insured by Freedom Home Care.
These are non-Medicare/non-Medicaid services (much to Sue's
happiness), so the pay source is either private pay or long-term
care insurance.
Becky
Brubaker continues her
quest to take over the media, as she is now vice president
of operations of the Daily Press in Newport
News, Va.
Charlie
Chiappone is senior vice president and field manager of
Field Erected Products and Reconstruction, Marley Cooling
Technologies Inc. in Kansas. We will be holding a contest
to figure out just what it is that they are erecting in Kansas,
as Charlie hasn't defined it for us. Whatever it is, we are
happy to have a representative erecting something in the center
of the Great Plains.
Bhasker
Dave is now a marketing
manager with Nalco Co. Everyone in the Ulysses Group always
saw his talent and knew he would make the jump into marketing.
Larry
Bilello continues in
his position as vice president, sales at George Winston Bakeries
Inc. He reports he is happy the Atkins diet fad is over.
Don
DiLucchio is a managing
director with The Christman Group.
Bob
Gallagher is now business
development manager at Panduit Corp in Orland Park, Ill.
Tony
Garcia is president of
UGA, a division of UICI Corp. He is definitely traveling a
lot — he keeps leaving messages about being between
planes on Sue's cell phone. We think he is really living at
DFW, just like Tom Hanks in that movie. So the next time you
are in an airport restroom, look for Tony.
Daryl
Gormley is returning
to Chicago in July to take on the position of vice president
of sales for Sara Lee Foods. We expect to see him at a summer
event.
Joyce
Hansen is president, J.M. Hansen & Associates. Joyce
is living in airports, too. She relates that she has visited
nearly 100 countries and she missed the reunion because she
was in another hemisphere. She will be offering miles to Charlie
so that he can fly up to dinner in Chicago.
Paul
Herring is a partner at Grant Thornton LLP and is director
of business reporting, assurance and advisory services/American
Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
David
G. Hill is the development
group leader of DJ Basin, EnCana Oil & Gas (USA) Inc.
in Colorado. Anyone interested in the energy industry should
give him a call.
David
K. Hill holds the position of vice president and counsel
of Assurant Health. It would appear the two "David Hills"
continue to thrive in two significant industries.
Sam
Iyer was last seen flying his plane to Southern California
to a new position. We are sure they have a few golf courses
in the area.
Nizar
Jiwani is president of
Digital Tek Strategies Inc. He sends the following announcement
about an important endeavor: "Partnership Walk Chicago
is an event to raise awareness of international development
issues and to find ways to alleviate poverty in developing
countries. This is the tenth anniversary of the event in the
States and its third in Chicago. I have been supporting the
foundation for many years after I decided to help by utilizing
my skills and time. The walk will take place on Sunday, Sept.
25, this year. I will be emailing more information to everyone
later in the summer."
Ann
Kloth is director of
product development for UnitedHealth Group, Ovations in Minnesota.
Ro
Kumar remains first vice president for strategy and business
development. He was recently appointed to the executive board
of ChicagoFIRST as vice chairman. At the reunion he related
how much he often feels like Henry Fonda in Twelve Angry
Men.
It
is great to have Chris Lolli back in Chicago. He and
Laurie are neighbors. We are waiting for the invitation to
the barbeque. He holds the position of vice president, national
accounts for American Express Establishment Services.
Mary
Ann Lusk is a senior vice president for client service
with Muzak, in Charlotte, S.C. Apparently, she and Greg
Calloway will be supplying the music for the barbeque.
Lisa
McLafferty is vice president
of web channel development and online marketing for the Professional
Education Institute.
Janine
Nyre is program director
for Northrop Grumman's ESSS defensive systems division.
Abe
Orbach was unanimously
voted the member of the class who has not aged since graduation.
Laurie
Pearlman continues to
deliver babies and has become the moving force in managing
the Midwest Center for Women's Healthcare. She has been instrumental
in its M&A activity and was sharing stories of governance
and organizational culture at the reunion. She received the
award for the best picture with a centerpiece that night.
Ranjit
Pradhan is the senior
product manager of cellular networks at Motorola.
Elias
Sfeir continues his role
as director of strategy and marketing for Radio Frequency
System, Brazil.
John
Slater's ice cream empire
is expanding, as he has now opened a Ben & Jerry's in
Haight-Ashbury. We are hoping he sends a photo soon!
Rob
Strahs reports he is now an investor in Arnold Magnetic
Technologies Corp., headquartered in Rochester, N.Y. Over
the last year and a half, he had the chance to use the breadth
of his Kellogg education, as the firm's new parent company
decided his division would be "held for sale." It
was a long process, but it could not have worked out better
when a private-equity company took the company private. With
operations in the States, U.K. and China, he is managing sales
and marketing globally to build organic growth, as well as
looking for acquisitions. Whether you know it or not, magnets
are everywhere! We all knew that Rob would find his niche,
after all, magnets are stronger than cable.
David
Susalla is the director
for the Midwest region with Control Solutions International.
He continues to grow the business.
Mike
Thompson was recently
spotted attending a Little League game in Hinsdale, Ill. It
would appear that his transition back to suburban life is
complete. He plans to take the summer off from his world travel.
As
always, we look forward to seeing everyone this summer. The
group remains strong, diverse and continues to expand its
talents in new and interesting ways!
