Hello
everyone! Thank you so much for all of the great updates you
sent in for this edition. It's great to hear from so many
of you. I'll start with my update. My husband Eric and I just
had our second son, Leo Maxwell, on Jan. 24 (older
brother Sam is 2). I am back at Oracle again (for the third
time) in product marketing, working from home. And my family
and I will be moving to San Diego this fall, but still spending
summers in Minneapolis. I hope we can catch up with those
of you in Southern California when we get there!
Jeff
and Carrie Barner welcomed daughter Abigail (Abby)
Grace Barner to the world on Jan. 12. Luke, born in November
2003, has adjusted well to his new role as big brother. Carrie
continues to enjoy working part time for Darden Restaurants
in Orlando, Fla.
After
more than seven years at Frito-Lay, Kevin Pate has joined imc², a top 10 interactive marketing
company (imc2.com), as vice president of consumer
products. He is responsible for building the relationship
with existing clients and developing new business across all
consumer products categories. Kevin and family, Shelley, Kellen
and Kieper, will remain in Dallas.
Dave
Holloman recently moved
jobs, accepting a position at Capgemini as the Americas consumer
products leader. The opportunity is a great one — to
lead an industry group and the firm's presence in this industry.
He reports that so far it has been a lot of fun. He and his
family remain in Glenview, Ill., and really enjoy it.
Winston
Fu and Millie Gong
celebrated their son's (Remy) first birthday in February.
They say, "Our friends were right — the first year
was the toughest." They still don't get out much, but
they are now much happier and less sleep-deprived. Millie
took some time off to catch up on sleep and care for Remy,
but she is now back consulting part-time with Live-Ops, a
startup that enables virtual call centers. Winston is still
working at U.S. Venture Partners. He travels to China once
in while and even had dinner with Yehan Koo
during one of his trips to Shanghai. Birdie Chang '98 and
Roman Reznicek have visited them a couple of times since they moved
from Berkeley to Boulder last year. Winston also had an Ed
Snyder sighting a couple
of weeks ago, but only by email.
On
Feb. 2, Lance Donenberg and wife Angie welcomed a baby brother Jack for sisters Lea and Gabi.
Lance got his son — and now they are done.
Alex
Magin, her husband Jon,
boys Phillip (6) and Logan (4), and dog Bruno (2), have moved
to Del Mar in Sunny San Diego! They are loving life in California
and ask that everyone please look them up when in the area.
Alex is still with Motorola; Jon is the global distributor
for Pepperball nonlethal weapons.
Tom
Nientimp and wife Elizabeth welcomed a little girl,
Avery Ann Nientimp, into the world on Nov. 15. He writes that
it is "by far the greatest thing he has ever experienced
and it keeps getting better every day."
John
Ganz finished his second
year at Northwestern University School of Law in May and will
spend summer 2005 in San Diego, working at Luce, Forward —
San Diego's largest and oldest law firm. This past year he
was a member of one of Northwestern's two mock trial teams
and was selected for the school's Journal of Criminal Law
and Criminology. The journal will publish in fall 2005 an article John wrote
about the constitutional issues surrounding law enforcement
use of GPS vehicle tracking devices. John recently visited
with classmates Ken Jones and Melinda Graham in Chicago. Contact him on his alumni email.
Patricio
Hernandez and wife Alejandra
welcomed their first baby last summer. Her name is Paulina
and she is a precious little girl now. They are currently
living in Miami and Patricio is working on his own, researching
the U.S. Hispanic market and providing consulting services
in that area.
Alex
Mitchell and wife Kelley
welcomed a son last August, giving the Mitchells "two
pair." His name is Evan Thomas, and he was born on Aug.
10. Alex's job in sales has gone well through the acquisition
of BroadJump by Motiva and Motiva's subsequent IPO. Although
the family lives in Austin, Texas, Natalie (now 8) loves to
point out that she is from Evanston.
Lara
and Grant Gund
welcomed their third child, Kelsey Laidlaw, into the world
on Oct. 1. The family recently moved to Weston, Mass. (about
10 minutes from where they were previously living). Grant
and his brother Zack '00 started a private-equity firm, Coppermine
Capital, and will move into new office space in September.
Frederic
Halley and Ariane Gorin
'00 are still living in Paris. They had the pleasure of welcoming
their son Nicolas in March 2004. Frederic is still running
the high-tech consulting firm he created four years ago (Tioga
Venture). He says, "The contingent of Kellogg '97 shrunk
when David Vely moved to Dubai last year."
Corrado
Giaquinto was appointed
head of Colgate Palmolive's new product group for Eastern
Europe division and moved with his family to a new home in
Moscow. They easily adjusted from champagne sipping to vodka
shots. He happily reports surviving his first six months of
extensive travel, escaping a jealous husband in Azerbajan
(unhappy about Corrado's consumer testing on his wife's showering
habits), a Tupolev flight with blocked windows in Uzbekistan,
a people uprising in Kirgystan, Moscow driving and a party
with the Romanian team.
Abby
Scott and John McWeeny
welcomed twins Molly and Graham to the world on July 28, 2004.
They are living in San Francisco and both are continuing in
their careers: John as the owner of Metrorent and Abby as
the career services director at Haas. Peter and Katy
Turner Keim and Peter McWeeny '01 are Godparents.
Barrett
Green is finally getting
some time to go fishing with 6-year-old son Carter on a kayak
in Galveston Bay (Carter caught small hammerhead shark). Barrett
is now vice president of commercial analytics for Entergy
Corp., after leading the Entergy deal team in the sale of
Gulf South Pipeline to Loews and Entergy Koch Trading to Merrill
Lynch (combined asset value over $2 billion) in 2004.
Ingrid
(Morris) Ensing taught at the
University of Texas Business School last year while finishing
her PhD at Duke. She and her husband Mike Ensing '96 moved
to Seattle last fall when Mike accepted a position with Microsoft
as the chief of staff to the CFO. They quickly became a "Microsoft
family" when Ingrid joined their leadership development
group, then went out on maternity leave in January after the
birth of their daughter Caren Swift Ensing.
Winnie
Wong and husband moved
from New York to Toronto a while ago and have been enjoying
life with their two little ones. Hannah is 2 and Noah is 7
months old — so life is busy but great! Winnie is currently
on maternity leave from Microsoft (in Canada, maternity leave
is one year!), so she's enjoying being a mom. She hopes everyone
is doing well. Reach her at winniewong714@hotmail.com.
Jerry
and Sadhana
(Dixit) Joliet moved
from the Bay Area to Southport, Conn., two years ago. They
are having a great time with their two boys, Jay (3 ½)
and Alex (20 months). Sadhana is at a software startup in
Stamford, and Jerry is at Diageo (leading alcoholic beverages
company), which is nice because they get lots of free booze!
They're very happy in Connecticut, although they miss all
of their dear Kellogg friends from San Francisco.
Sal
Saglimbeni married Bronwyn
Wormell in Santa Cruz, Calif., on Aug. 7 and is finally catching
up on his Kellogg World update. Many Kellogg
friends joined them for the occasion. Led by Sal's brothers/best
men, Phil '00 and Nino, they were toasted by all at the wedding
with a traditional Sicilian salute (fingers together held
up in the air) with one hand and a drink in the other. Naturally,
they honeymooned in Sicily, Italy, and have now settled in
the Willow Glen neighborhood of San Jose, Calif.
Actor
Michael Teh is still based in NYC, though he recently
ran some reconnaissance in LA during the TV pilot season.
Shelter, encouragement and friendship were provided by the
lovely and very pregnant Julie Kim. A fun rendezvous
with the then-doubly-pregnant Leo Griffin '98 and some other
Kelloggians was accomplished. Michael is currently represented
by Innovative Artists (TV) and Ford (print) in New York, but
is planning a move to Los Angeles after the summer to give
acting a proper crack. He is therefore very keen for and would
be greatly appreciative of your help, advice, and/or employment
from your agent, actor, producer, manager, director friends
out there (or in New York) for legit or commercial acting
or print work! (michaelteh2001@yahoo.com, 917.361.0619).
Fritz
Jordan recently moved
to Austin, Texas. He is now director of strategy, emerging
markets, for the Wireless Mobile and Systems Group of Freescale
Semiconductor. Reach him at fritz.jordan@freescale.com
or by phone at 512.944.3603 (mobile) or 512.895.3603
