Amanda
Wilson
and partner Barbara Livingston are happy to announce the birth
of their son Max on April 18. Max is getting smothered with
love from his 2-year-old sister Elinor, her moms' big "helper."
Amanda will return to Gillette following her maternity leave,
where she is currently a business manager in its oral-care
group. In the meantime, since daytime TV has very quickly
lost its appeal, please feel free to call and help fill the
time between feedings!
Nancy
Curby and Sam Bottum
recently traveled to Thailand to do tsunami volunteer relief
work with The Phuket Project. They spent two weeks in northern
Phuket helping to rebuild local houses that were destroyed
by the tsunami. Working in more than 100-degree heat, Nancy
became quite an expert in building cinder block walls and
Sam (one of the team leaders) dug ditches like a pro. Nancy
also met up in Bangkok for a few days with Margaret
Pomeroy Hunt, who was
there on a business trip. The Phuket Project's goal is to
send teams of volunteers to Thailand for two-week stints throughout
the year to help with rebuilding efforts. For more information,
visit phuketproject.org or contact Sam (sambottum@earthlink.net) or Nancy (ncurby@yahoo.com).
Julie
Stahl and Paul Peachey
were married in March. Other Kelloggians at the wedding were:
Bridget Boyle,
Gretchen Haegele Flaum, Katherine McCormick,
Scott Whitaker '97, Kathy Preble Bayert '97, Katie Brick '98
and Scott Hanson '00. The couple lives in Washington, D.C.,
where Julie is working in microfinance at Grameen Foundation
USA as regional director for Asia programs.
Susan
Mantel writes: "After almost seven years at Pfizer,
I left to pursue a more entrepreneurial environment where
I would be closer to medical research. Thanks to Laurie
Nash, with whom I was connected by networker extraordinaire Margaret Pomeroy
Hunt, I found the perfect position as executive director of
an organization called Joan's Legacy: The Joan Scarangello
Foundation to Conquer Lung Cancer. Joan's Legacy is a charitable
foundation focused on increasing funding for lung cancer research
in order to provide earlier diagnosis and better treatment
options for the No. 1 cancer killer of both men and women.
Not only is it very lethal, but almost all of the nonprofit
and government funding in this area is applied to prevention
instead of treatment and cure, despite the fact that someone
is diagnosed with lung cancer every three minutes. Needless
to say, while entrepreneurial environments provide their own
challenges, I find the work tremendously rewarding and inspiring.
I invite any Kellogg grads in the New York area to our annual
benefit on Nov. 15!"
Stephanie
and Geoff Stevens report a new addition to their family. Connor, a baby brother for Matthew
(who just turned 3), entered the world with much fanfare on
April 6, to a thrilled (but now sleep-deprived) mom and dad.
The Stevens still call Los Angeles home, where Geoff works
for Yahoo! as GM of the company's local sponsored search business
unit. There are many SoCal area classmates that they pal around
with including Brian Grant (who lives nearby), Kori and Norbert Hudak (and son Milo), Michelle and Scott Sangster
(and daughter Alexandra) and Rob Collier.
Classmates who plan to swing through L.A. anytime soon or
just want to get in touch can reach Geoff at grwstevens@yahoo.com. |
