Chicago
Fellow
Alumni,
The Kellogg Alumni Club of Chicago has been quite active during
the spring, with many events held for alumni in Chicago and
its western suburbs! This couldn't have been accomplished
without such a strong board and group of volunteers. Thank
you!
Below are highlights of the events we've held over the past
couple of months, as well as a list of upcoming events. I
encourage you to visit our Web site, kelloggalumni.northwestern.edu/clubs/kacc,
to see what we've been up to, as well as what's planned for
the coming months.
The club's spring roster included a variety of social and
educational events, from a Kane County Cougars game to seminars
on networking as a way to career success. Club members kept
ties to their alma mater strong as they participated in Kellogg
Cares, a daylong community service event in Evanston, and
attended the Nancy L. Schwartz Memorial Lecture, given this
year by Princeton Professor Daniel Kahneman. Club members
also continued their involvement in a book club, reading Lateral
Marketing: New Techniques for Finding Breakthrough Ideas
by Kellogg School Professor Philip Kotler and Fernando Trias
de Bes.
Upcoming
events:
Art Institute of Chicago's Evening Associates ProgramSeurat
ExibitJuly 16
The
Kellogg Alumni Club of Chicago is supporting the Art Institute
of Chicago's Evening Associates program on July 16. Held to
coincide with one of the Art Institute's blockbuster exhibitions,
the works of Seurat, this event will take place after museum
hours, allowing free access to the Institute, including the
Seurat exhibit. Final event details, including time and price,
to be announced.
Tickets will be limited and available for direct purchase
at the Art Institute or through Ticketmaster. If they haven't
sold to capacity by the evening of the event, tickets will
be available at the door, but expect to pay more if you wait
until that evening.
Accomplishing
Market Channel Change: Paths and PitfallsAug. 12
Changing
the routes a company takes to get its products or services
to market is difficult, at best, and impossible, at worst.
Any suggested change is usually met with a cascade of anecdotal
evidence indicating the proposed move will result in disaster.
Fear, bordering on acute paranoia, about channel conflict,
may put the company into a catatonic state, resulting in the
triumph of the status quo. But change is often necessary or,
at least, well advised, especially as new technologies permit
more efficient distribution and marketing. This presentation
by Kellogg School Professor Louis W. Stern will suggest ways
in which to accomplish channel change without the normally
antagonistic push-back from those directly affected.
Ravinia
Event featuring The CorrsAug. 19
The
club will have an area for Kellogg in the lawn seating so
alums can group together. Participants are to bring their
own picnic or purchase food and drink at the festival. Come
out and join yourfellow Kellogg alumni and families for some
awesome Irish rock!
Developing
Your Personal Strategy WorkshopMay 8
Using
a combination of group coaching, active learning, assessment
and introspection, this workshop allows participants to delve
more completely into how they can leverage innate talents,
passions and values to create the career they want. Various
models will be used to guide participants in clarifying what
they want to do and contribute, identifying and evaluating
career options and developing a career roadmap. The program
will be presented by experienced executive coaches and career
management consultants Linda Balkin and Sandy Mitsch.
As the Kellogg Alumni Club of Chicago continues to grow, we
continue to look for strong alumni volunteers who will grow
with us. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact
John Tomaszewski at Jtomaszewski1998@kellogg.northwestern.edu.
