Three
years ago, we were approaching our graduation and wondering
what life would be like not being at the Allen Center and
seeing our classmates a few times a week. I'm happy to say
that several people have kept in touch and get together in
other parts of the country and even around the world.
Polly
MacIssac, her husband Will and son Sam just moved into
a new home in Boston after relocating there a year ago. When
she isn't unpacking or chasing Sam, who is now 18 months old,
Polly spends some time doing strategic planning for a start-up
and consumer insight analysis for a market research company.
She recently got to see Aileen Blake, who was in Boston,
and said that it was great to catch up in person. Polly has
also met a neighbor who is a Kellogg alum and they have been
considering getting involved with the alumni club in Boston.
Matt
Gresge and Barry Metzger went on their own version
of a GIM trip to China, Hong Kong, Indonesia and Taiwan, covering
24,000 miles in eight days. Barry was helping Matt and one
of his colleagues from RR Donnelley & Sons locate manufacturers
to produce products in Asia. Matt says that they had a great
time and that Barry was an "exceptionally able guide and that
they couldn't have done it without him." Matt also reports
that Tops, the office products manufacturing company and division
of RR Donnelley & Sons that he leads, is the new printer
of the Kellogg notepads that we all got to know and love during
our time in school.
Kim
Roeme has recently started a new company with some work
colleagues. Her new firm, The Kenrich Group LLC, is a business
and litigation consulting firm in Chicago.
Andy
Shafter was appointed national sales manager for Spear
Leeds & Kellog, a Goldman Sachs company. Andy and family
were also busy last winter moving into a home they renovated
just down the street from their former home in Wilmette.
Frank
Carroll was named president of Dremel, a division of Robert
Bosch Tool Corp.
For those of you who have missed the concept of classes, studying,
projects and papers, Jeff Swallow has recently
begun work on his Ph.D. If it sounds tempting, Jeff said that
he had to get 11 books for just the first class! Good luck,
Jeff, and let us know if we need to reassemble Delta 7 for
some study-group support.
Due
to editorial error, these notes were inadvertently omitted
from the spring issue of Kellogg World.
A
classmate of ours who has undergone a significant career change
recently is Barry Metzger. Last fall Barry became a
financial adviser with Morgan Stanley in its Riverwoods, Ill.,
office. He is currently advising several individual and small
business clients, and specializes in retirement and college
planning, professional investment management and residential
lending. Barry says he is enjoying delivering "peace of mind"
to his clients, and that his new line of work is rewarding
and fulfilling.
I'm sure that several of you have thought about going back
to the Allen Center to audit a class that you always wanted
to take but weren't able to while we were in school. Recently,
Gautam Roy was able to take advantage of a slightly
less hectic time at work at the CBOE to audit two marketing
classes. He says that he took all of the finance electives
while we were in school and is now really enjoying taking
some of the other great classes that are offered. Gautam,
thanks for the inspiration to head back to class. |
