Greetings! By the time you read this column, you should be getting ready for this year's annual Golf Outing, Scheduled for Sept. 14 at St. Andrews Golf Club in West Chicago! In keeping with tradition, there will be a BBQ over at the Karney's at the conclusion of the outing. If you have not submitted your sign-up sheet, please do so ASAP, or drop me a note to let me know you will be joining the fun. We have locked-in eight foursomes, and hope to see the majority of the class at the BBQ. All spouses/significant others are welcome. I will also use this opportunity to beg and grovel for prizes. (It's time to raid those corporate closets and bring your best merchandise.) I am still waiting for Tim Smithe to bring a sofa to award to the longest drive!

My brow-beating finally worked, as I actually received a few e-mails from you! First on the list is Dr. Jorge DeCastillo. Jorge was promoted to Associate Professor of Medicine at Northwestern Medical School. Congratulations! Next on his łto-do˛ list is to gear up academically for a full professor promotion. I am happy to report that I already have Jorge's check in hand and he will be attending the golf outing.

Paula Currie let me know she is enjoying her new life and position in Virginia. She is working for the Daily Press. She is also going to make every effort to join us for the BBQ. Now, if Paula can make it here from Virginia, that gives you locals NO EXCUSE to not participate!

Speaking of Golf Outing participants, I have also received actual checks and sign-up forms from Tim Smithe, Arun Menawat, Rob Valerious, Phil Barnett, Wayne Upshaw, Ken Timmins, Steve Jungmann, along with e-mail commitments from Brett Latham, Audrey Morrisson, Patricia Shafer, John McDevitt, Bob Knowling, Jeff Dahl, Mike Kaysen, and Steve Furman.

Brett Latham let me know his oldest son, Blake, graduate with honors from high school in June. Blake just returned from a week internship at Harrah's Casino in Las Vegas, and also participated in two year entrepreneurial programs earning scholarships from both. In his spare time, Blake is already earning $30 an hour assisting people with Web site development. He will attend Ohio State to pursue a computer science/engineering degree. Hey Blake, can you hire me?

  Arun Menawat

Arun Menawat is the only person who took my threats personally and produced a picture for this article! Arun is the president and general manager for Cedara Softare Corporation. Arun is involved in creating software that aids early detection and treatment of tumors and blood vessel blockage. If you have had to recently schedule an MRI or CAT scan, chances are one in four that Cedara's software was used to create the images.

As for yours truly, I just got back from a much-needed family vacation to Disney World. I don't know who had more fun, Kellie and Zachary or Steve and I. In addition, Steve and I had a chance to vacation at Pebble Beach in late May in order to celebrate his brother's 40th birthday. We played SpyGlass, Pebble Beach and Spanish Bay. I vote for our next Golf Outing to be held there! That entire Pebble Beach/17 mile drive area is one of the most beautiful and scenic destinations in the country. See everyone in September!
