EMP-23

[Ed. note. Mike Fitzgerald submitted this column, which will be his last as class representative.]

After 10 years, I have decided it is time for a change. I have asked Doug Berg to take over EMP-23 reporting, and he has generously agreed to do so. This then, will be my last official column. I will do my best to report all the information I have learned in the process of trying to organize a class reunion for our class.

  Dr. Richard Gayes

But first, the BIG news. After 10 years, we have our first picture. Dr. Richard Gayes, M.D. has been named medical director, network management for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois. As medical director, network management, Dr. Gayes will work closely with the providers on clinical and management-related matters, and will be responsible for a number of initiatives related to the quality and effectiveness of the network.

Our second item relates to our Reunion Cruise scheduled for Oct. 25, 2001. Five couples are going on the cruise at present. They are Bergs, Fitzgeralds, Gats, Jakubiaks and Striblings. There's still time to join us. Call Mike Fitzgerald at 800.972.9654 for more details.

In my last column there were three missing classmates. Eric Schultz has been found. He is working at Price Waterhouse with Ray Jakubiak. The whereabouts of Pete DeJong and Steve Bott are still unknown. Larry Rine continues to attend training and social events at Kellogg. He is working with a start-up. Paco Beltran is in California, developing new products for Walt Disney Co. Tim Kaczmarek is at Northern Trust. Dan Grotto has returned to Chicago from Pittsburgh, working as executive senior vice president of business development at West Suburban Bank Group. Bill LaGanke is the president of South Heat in Birmingham Alabama. He has children in college and a daughter getting married in Chicago in September. Bill, Ken Stribling, Scott Webber, and myself are planning a golf outing then. If you would like to join, please call Mike Fitzgerald.

Jeff Fletcher is in Cummings, Iowa, and is CFO for a company that runs day care academies around the country.

I wish everyone in EMP-23 continued success. Please support Doug with your news and notes.
