Cole joined by Kellogg peers at the Black Management
Association's conference this spring

Needless
to say, the first half of 2001 has been a time of transitions.
From the job front to personal lives, our class members have
experienced significant changes. The Kellogg network is alive
and well.
Rob
Dreier has had an extremely busy time of it during the
past couple years, including (chronologically): Promoted to
vice president in Tucker Anthony's mergers and acquisitions
department during 1999; married at the end of 1999; bought
a house in early 2000 (in Duxbury, Mass.); he and his wife
had a baby boy, William Marshall, in September.
Rob has
spent time with fellow Kellogians Corrado Giaquinto, Marco
Azzaretti, Kevin Dame, Rand Lewis, Patrick Imholz, and Chris
Cassanega, not to mention his annual golf pilgrimage with
fellow Kellogians Wali Bacdayan,
Sanjay Kapoor and Kenji Hashimoto.
Erin and
Scott Turtel added to the family this past December. Scott
writes, "Matthew Caleb joined us at 3:37 a.m., 12 days
past expected due date. He is a bundle of joy! He feeds well,
doesn't cry very much and likes to sleep -- just like dad
on all counts. Nathaniel calls Matthew his best friend and
brought him his first teddy bear. Erin is doing fine; she
really enjoys being a mom and says 'it's good to be getting
my lap back!' I'm with Intel in Tokyo and had a chance to
see Anotai
Adulbhan.
and May (Jutatip) while vacationing in Thailand last month.
Julian
Posada and his long-time girlfriend, Gina, eloped to Bali
and got married. Mirabel
Gombe is
working in Atlanta. She writes, "I have been here about
four months. I am now the sales and marketing manager for
Jaguar Cars, Southern Region. The position is challenging
but rewarding." Betsy
Jacks got married Sept. 9 to Ken Dow!
Alex
Nacht joined Bear Stearns as associate director of e-commerce.
After a year at an Internet start-up which followed three
years of consulting at IBM, Alex joined Bear in May. He resides
in New York City.
After
two years, Andrew
Appel and
Susan Hersh moved from Singapore to San Diego in early June.
They had a fantastic time, met some nice people, and traveled
all over Asia. Andrew's still with HP, and has started a new
role managing a portion of a strategic alliance that HP has
with a joint venture partner. Susan's in the process of interviewing
for teaching positions. They haven't seen many Kelloggians
in the past couple years, and would be glad to host visitors
to San Diego (as soon as they have a place). Reach Andrew
at andrew_appel@ hp.com.
Andy
Scott was married April 21 in San Francisco to Stacey
Smith. They returned from a great honeymoon in the Caribbean.
He is still employed at Garage.com.
Michelle
(Cesped) Vidano and
her husband, Chuck, are planning a journey to travel the world
(at least as much as we can see in the time they have) starting
July 29. "We will be off to Alaska for a month, then
Asia for nearly five months and Egypt plus the Middle East
for another three months. Can't wait!"
Brad
Williamson and
his wife, Debbie, welcomed their first daughter, Carina, on
Oct. 15. (Baby pics may be found at www.milestone2.com). Brad
left his job with Sonicare last June so he and Debbie could
spend their last childless summer traveling and remodeling
their Seattle-area home. Brad recently joined Sun Precautions,
makers of sun protective clothing (www.sunprecautions.com),
as director of marketing. Debbie continues to do freelance
editing and writing for Advertising Age and The Industry Standard
out of their home.
Alex
Emery writes, "Our son, Maximilien, was born May
10. Both mother and baby are doing well, as is elated elder
sister, Charlotte (4). We are still in London, and I continue
to have fun at McKinsey."
Benoit
Besson is still with Meta Group in Chicago, not remarried
but enjoying the spring with his two children, Chloe (8) and
William (6), both bilingual and bi-national. "All is
very well."
Barbee
(Bartolome) Chuidian reports, "Another baby for me
and my husband, Tim. On May 9, baby boy No. 2 arrived for
us (only 17 months after our first baby). Jaime Sebastian
Antonio weighed in at 8 pounds, 5 ounces. We look forward
to a very busy household in Hong Kong with two baby boys running
around."
Menno
Veeneklaas and his wife, Mairead, had a 9-pound baby son
on Feb 18. "His name is Finn and he's having fun experimenting
with little sounds and playing. It's an amazing experience
being a father. We moved houses early this year to Long Reef
beach, about 15 miles north of down town Sydney. We love it
there. The start-up that I co-founded last year (Natural Health
Therapies) raised a seed round early this year, and is now
raising its first round of capital. We are developing a branded
network of integrative medicine centers where best practice
in conventional medicine and natural therapies are combined
to provide an integrated, holistic approach to healthcare.
Australians are tired of swallowing too many pharmaceuticals!"
Joe
Urban recently joined a new start-up in Belmont, Calif.,
called E2open as director of product management. He shares,
"We're enabling product design collaboration, supply
chain and open markets for the electronics industry. It's
been quite a ride and it doesn't look like it's going to slow
down any time soon."
Charisse
Ford has left the Sara Lee Corporation (Playtex Apparel
Division). She has accepted a position with Avon in the city.
(No more commuting, yipppeeee!) She will be marketing manager
on their global team in the personal care group.
Nikki
(Tarlton) Cole and her husband, Ron, just moved into their
new home in Gaithersburg, Md., coming off of a great first
year for the consulting business, Potomac Consulting Group,
LLC. Nikki writes, "We're looking to add a couple employees
this year and are still working in management and product
strategy for big pharma mainly. And now we're a little closer
to the MaggieMoo's Ice Cream store that Ron and I own in Gaithersburg.
With the warm weather, business has picked up nicely."
Peter
Walter, his wife, Lyle, and their son, Nathan, decided
to pick up their bags and head east...to Bangkok! He reports,
"We're planning to spend at least 2-3 years in Bangkok
with AT Kearney, working throughout SE Asia and beyond. After
being in Singapore last year for several months, we decided
we really wanted to get back to Asia. Thailand, in particular,
is a place we've always enjoyed and we've wanted to go for
a long time. This is the perfect opportunity to do it! We'll
be heading over in late-June, just in time for AT Kearney
to christen their new Bangkok office space with all sorts
of fanfare. Nathan's almost two-and-a-half and is shooting
up like a weed. Hopefully he'll have a sibling not too long
after we get settled into our new home in Bangkok. He's great;
so much fun, and so fascinating to watch him change."
Sean Foley
is one of the most recent (and maybe among the last, given
the recent economic downturn) '97ers to migrate to the Bay
Area. He writes, "I finally left the crazy world of consulting
(Marakon Associates in Chicago)in March to take on a new position
as director of corporate strategy at Gap Inc. in San Francisco,
supporting the Gap, Banana Republic, and Old Navy online businesses.
So far, the work has been great, (and the store discount has
come in very handy as well)."
Rene
and Nancy (Joyce) Jarquin are
living in the Bay Area. Rene writes, "We've been here
since September 1999 when, after two years at GE Capital,
I accepted a vice presidential sales position at a start-up
software company called Aceva Technologies, based in Mountain
View. We're almost two years old and have made significant
traction despite the dramatic pullback in IT spending. Aceva
develops and markets financial supply chain software to CFOs
of Fortune1000 enterprises. Nancy is still at Doubleclick,
which requires her to travel a lot between New York and San
Francisco. She was recently promoted to general manager of
their e-mail division (located in New York), which has truly
tested her remote management skills. At any rate, she's happy
for now, though the travel will become tougher to manage.
Luckily, she still finds time for the occasional weekend spa
visit with her old Kellogg posse Candace Parks and Archana
Mehra, who
are still in Chicago. We really enjoy living in the Bay Area
(San Mateo) and though there are no kids on the way yet, we
are considering buying a house. The only good thing to come
out of the IT slump is a pretty significant drop in the value
of homes in the Bay Area."
Marco
Azzaretti just accepted a new position of business development
manager for Gerber Technology. As part of the transition,
he will relocate to Connecticut from his current post in Seattle
with FMC Corporation. In addition, he reports, "Over
New Year's I met up with several classmates in Val d' Isere
(France), for a week of great skiing and fun. Among the participants
were Patrick Imholz, Alessandro Duina, Corrado Giaquinto,
Felix Ahlers, Richard Debrot, Thomas Schultz and Orazio
Costadura '96. We are looking forward to doing it all over
again in December. Earlier this spring I attended Richard
Debrot's wedding in Philadelphia, along with Thomas Schultz,
Antonio Guerra, Vernie Huertas, Hugh Cunningham, Ravi Kumar,
Vladimir Barbieri and Kristen Dykema. Finally, I just
returned from a week of vacation in the Turks and Caicos islands
with Corrado Giaquinto, who
is still living in Paris working for Colgate-Palmolive."
Despite
eGrad becoming profitable, College Publisher dominating the
online college newspaper space, and Broadband Publisher (an
amazing Web publishing and content management system for online
magazines, newspapers, newsletters, etc.) showing incredible
promise, Michael Teh is taking indefinite leave from
his start-ups and is headed to Portugal for the summer "to
learn the language, do lots of yoga and take up kung fu."
He'll be in Lisbon for June and July and will be looking for
trouble elsewhere on the continent during August and beyond,
so feel free to track him down if you're in the region (try
his sister's phone in Portugal 351.96.387.2057 or mteh1997@
kellogg.nwu.edu). No, he's yet to mature in any tangible way.
Annette
Herz sends
her best from Germany. "Hello, all! Have any Class of
'97ers moved to Germany? Last November, I moved from Boston
to Frankfurt with Gillette. Instead of the wonderful world
of shaving, I am working on the next generation power toothbrushes
-- truly a better way to brush! Frankfurt is a great city
to explore the rest of Europe, so I am trying to pack in as
many mini trips as possible. If you are in the vicinity, please
e-mail me: Annette_Herz@Gillette.com." Charlotte Vere
and her
husband Alfredo became proud parents of baby Hector on Sept.
11. He weighed 9 pounds, 4 ounces and measured 22 inches.
She shares, "What's more to say? Feel like I haven't
slept since! Still trying to run my company room-in-a-box.co.uk
whilst juggling the responsibilities of a new mother."
Barrette
Green added
to his family this winter. "Elizabeth Sanders Green was
born Feb 16. We are calling her Sanders, which is Janice's
maiden name. Everyone is doing great. We're still in Jackson,
Miss., and I am still working for Entergy running the finance
group for acquisitions of nuclear plants."

Julie
Kim writes,
"I've joined a special club called ŒUnemployed' and have
been spending my time looking for a job, visiting friends and
training for a triathlon. Unemployed life isn't too bad. I've
visited many of our classmates in the past couple of months.
During my last trip to San Francisco, I spent some time with
Anne Raveret,
Mark Holmstrom, Marc Galletti and Andy Scott. In a visit
to Chicago, I met up with Jon Wilk,
his wife Tracie and their baby boy, Noah, Andy Carlson,
Kevin Hoffman, Beth Weber, and Ed Lhee. I also visited Steve
and Ifen Carlson at their new home in Pacific Grove and
had dinner with Jon
and Rita Belmonte and
their baby girl, Hana, in San Diego. And the ever-traveling
Michael Teh has stopped in L.A. a couple of times on his way
back and forth from Australia. If anyone wants to visit, I've
got time to entertain. The other news is I've signed up to do
the Pacific Grove Triathlon with The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's
Team in Training Program. I've never competed in a triathlon,
so tackling an Olympic style triathlon will be challenging."
Marty
Caverly is
in London, making a go of it with his new company. "So
far, we are doing well, but to say it's a challenging environment
is an understatement. Courtney is also doing well. We added
a second one, a baby girl named Gillian, last June. Time flies,
and she is a lot of fun now. Bray is a proper little boy now
(over 3!), and speaks with an English accent, which we will
have to clean up when we come back to the States. Speaking
of which, we only get back two times a year, and until this
thing is up and running and I can replace myself with a qualified
manager, we can't really come back. Could be a while!"
Janet
(Gardner) Long and her husband Justin relocated to Bryn
Mawr, Pa., (just outside Philly) in December to be closer
to their families on the East Coast. They also had a baby
boy, Henry Addison Long, on March 28. Janet is currently on
maternity leave but is still working for Diamond (used to
be Diamond Technology Partners -- it's now DiamondCluster
International) as a director of marketing.
Burt
Lampl writes,
"Several Kelloggians attended the wedding of
Nancy
Blair
and Lutz Goedde at the Delta Lodge at Kananaski, just west
of Calgary. Those present included Asha
Morgan and
her husband Marty
Moran,
Annette Herz, Arturo Zacarias and his wife Christina and
Jasmin Kraft. The
touching ceremony and extravagant dinner reception were filled
with fun and laughter."
Rita
and Jon Belmonte have
good news to report. On March 4, Rita gave birth to Hana Helen
Belmonte, a beautiful 7 pounds, 3 ounces and 20 inches baby
girl. According to Jon, Hana has been the perfect child thus
far. She cries only 10 minutes per day, sleeps 11 hours per
night and flashes her beautiful smile regularly. In addition
to multiple visits from the new grandparents, fellow Kellogians
Andy Carlson, Vimla Gupta,
Tim Moran, Steve and Ifen (Sung) Carlson, and Julie Kim
have met her during recent visits to La Jolla/San Diego. Alisa
(Sacerdote) Brockelman and
her two little ones also met Hana in NYC during Hana's first
trip. Life outside of parenthood is well. Jon's company, Active.com,
continues to do well, in spite of the downturn in the market.
Rita has resumed her part-time marketing consult consulting
work from home, and enjoys splitting her time between work
and motherhood.
Hai-Duong
(HD) Vo writes: "I got married last September to
a Kellogg EMP-39 alum, Stan Woo. Kellogg attendants were Joe
Dierdorf, Sean Kraus, Tim Moran, Judy Hayes, Mitsuyo Mori,
and Russ Low EMP-39." In March, her company announced
a new server product line, making up about a significant portion
of Sun's revenue. HD was responsible for pricing strategy
of these servers, pricing from $70,000 to $1 million.

Kristi
Anderson competing in the Ironman California endurance
triathlon in May
|
|
|
Congratulations
to Kristi Anderson for competing in the Ironman Calif.,
on May 19. The race included a 2.4 mile swim, a 112-mile bike
race, and a 26.2 mile marathon run. She finished strong in
12 hrs 7 min! Barbara McCollister writes, "It was so
inspirational to watch."
Glen
R. Dils will be moving to San Francisco where he'll be
working with '97 grad Ed Snyder at JPMorgan/ Chase
doing equity research in the wireless sector. He started work
June 4.
Geoff
Kulesa's family is growing quickly. "From one to
three in 11 minutes. On April 29 in the span of a few minutes,
Wanda delivered twin baby boys, Ryan and Bryce. Combined with
our son Kyle (almost 3), we have our hands full. I am still
heading up the sales and marketing efforts at SafeRent, a
dot-com that looks like it will actually make it. By the time
this is printed, we will have closed our third and final round
before we reach profitability early next year."
Steve
Carlson writes, "The last few years since Kellogg
have brought quite a few changes for Ifen (Sung) and
me. After moving to San Francisco last fall, we were married
in October. For the most part, the ceremony (which took place
in Chicago) was overrun by the Kelloggians in attendance:
Art Ash '94, Jon and Rita Belmonte, Adam Bergstein,
Brett Bonthron '95, Brenda Brown, Daniel Bryant '95, Matt
Burnham, Andy Carlson, Bob Carlson, Ted Davis, Pat Flanagan,
Julie Grusin '96, Kevin Hoffman, Mark Holmstrom, Jerry
and Sadhana Joliet, Julie Kim, Ed Lhee, Darren Louis,
Andy Maner and his wife Julie '96, Barb McCollister,
Daris McCullough, Tim Moran, Shephalie Patel '96, Anne
Ravaret, Danny Rosenberg, Dan Seligson, Dan Spector,
Mike Stone, Jenn Strom, Rob Taylor, Beth Weber, Kurt Weinsheimer,
Jon Wilk, and Christopher Wright '98.

In
March, Jason Summers '97 was married to Staci Lynn Orie.
|
|
|
|
Our honeymoon
was in the Maldives (Indian Ocean), with a couple days spent
in Hong Kong where Julie Kim did a remarkable job as travel
guide. More recently, Ifen and I both accepted positions with
Household International (nation's second largest consumer
finance company). With the jobs came a move to the Monterey
Peninsula, two hours south of San Francisco. Living in Pacific
Grove, we are able to watch the sunset over the Pacific each
night and are a few blocks from Pebble Beach. While we have
a number of Kellogg friends who have reserved a weekend at
our place, we hope more can make the trip."
In March
31, Jason Summers married Staci Lynn Orie in Pittsburgh.
Fellow 4Qs of 1997 Jasmin Kraft and Brian Kearns joined the
festivities. Jason and Staci will be living in Fairfax, Va.
just outside Washington, D.C.
