Kellogg Executive Women’s Network (KEWN)
The Kellogg Executive Women’s Network continued its partnership with the Union League of Chicago for its Authors Luncheon series. This series continues to provide KEWN members and guests with a venue to meet and hear prominent authors from a wide array of disciplines. Authors included Sallie Krawcheck, Chris Hays, Maureen Chiquet, Scott Turow and Pete Souza, among others. In addition to the Union League Club activity, KEWN also held a number of other events that provided opportunities for learning, giving back to the community and networking. In May, KEWN members and guests enjoyed our ninth annual wine tasting and networking evening.
In November, KEWN participated in our inaugural Kellogg Cares event, where we prepared and served lunch to the women of Sarah’s Circle, a nonprofit organization with a mission of serving women who are homeless or in need of a safe place. In early December, KEWN members, guests and their children participated in the 11th Annual Holiday Brunch and Gift Wrapping event. At this event, the attendees provided and wrapped gifts for children and families who are supported by Community Alternatives Unlimited, an Illinois social services organization. Also in December, KEWN hosted a Holiday Gathering with Wendy Weiss Kritt ’84, Kellogg managing director, alumni engagement and networking. Wendy discussed her perspective and personal experience on navigating three career pivot points for women: the Launch, the Mid-Career Marathon and the Executive Transition.
KEWN held two events in January 2018. The first was an opportunity to make an important New Year’s resolution and follow through on it: “Get your Financial Life in Order.” This program was presented by Fries Financial Planning and was specifically tailored for women. The second event was a Fireside Chat with Barbara Res, moderated by Danielle Dy Buncio ’12, a member of the KEWN board. Barbara is best known as the former executive vice president of the Trump Organization, and the first woman to lead the construction of a skyscraper, Trump Tower on Fifth Avenue in New York. Barbara discussed what it was like for her to build her career as a female in a man’s world and her advice to women encountering similar challenges.
