Louis Huston is living in the Netherlands working as a strategy and planning executive directly under the CIO of Royal Dutch Shell (Shell Oil), as well as serving as a member of the IT executive committee. In his duties, he collaborates with the CIO on a daily basis on all IT activities (internal and external) for Shell Oil globally. Most of Louis’ day is spent building and shaping the vision for IT in Shell and working with external suppliers and organizations on building differentiating IT capabilities for the corporation. Louis finds this role very challenging and it provides him an opportunity to work and learn from the senior leaders inside Shell.
EMP-66 destinations: Six classmates and friends enjoyed the 70 percent chance of rain (100 percent chance of gorgeous) for four days in October amongst the swaying palm trees and tropical breezes of Puerto Rico. Kaye Cingle, James Waite, Amanda Sheehan (and Rick Safar), and Drew Marston (and Ruth) enjoyed a rainforest hike, wandering in old San Juan and taking an evening kayak tour. Next trip: New York 2010.
Joe Blanck changed jobs in October. He is operations manager and COO with Highway Equipment Company, a privately held manufacturer of fertilizer spreaders and road salt spreaders.
Chris Ball was reassigned to lead Whirlpool’s fabric care (laundry) business for the European markets, based out of Northern Italy. The position gets him back into marketing, and should be a great experience both professionally and personally. Chris and his family will live near Varese, Italy, which is about a half hour from the Swiss border, and within a few hours’ drive of skiing in the Alps. If any 66ers are planning to head over that way, Chris would enjoy catching up over some vino Italiano!
No, it’s not the Tea Party but a new grassroots movement has been making noise among Kellogg graduates in Boston (i.e., the re-energized Kellogg Alumni Club of Boston). Last fall, our very own Lou Madge became co-president of the Kellogg Alumni Club of Boston and, along with a new leadership team, started organizing speaker events and recurring happy hours (what Kellogg alum does not like happy hours?). Slowly but surely, the attendance at networking events is increasing and the alumni network is becoming more active. On Jan. 26, the club kicked off the year with an exciting alumni breakfast event at the University Club in Boston featuring Interim Dean Sunil Chopra. Chopra discussed recent events at Kellogg, his current outlook for the school given the uncertain economic environment and his plans for the future. The event was well attended and got rave reviews; it will be a tough act to follow. Upcoming club events include a breakfast speaker event on March 30 featuring Fred Breimyer, a senior regional economist from the FDIC, and evening happy hours on the first Tuesday of every month at the Miel Restaurant at the Intercontinental Hotel. Lou and team are in the planning stage for a summer golf outing event at the Wellesley Country Club. Lou would enjoy seeing his EMP-66 classmates at any of these events if they are in Boston.
Roopak Manchanda, wife Anna Maria and son Rahul welcomed the arrival of a sweet baby girl, Aina Manchanda-Izquierdo, on Feb. 17. Aina was born at 5:04 p.m. and weighed 8 pounds, 12 ounces. Everyone is doing well.
