EMP-60

Greetings EMP-60! It is the Year of the Tiger and the year of our five-year Reunion (how fitting)! We are having a lot of fun reaching out and reconnecting with folks. Don Hammond, Stu Abelson, Roy Rumbough and I were honored to be selected to serve as your Reunion committee. I am settling in nicely outside of Louisville, Ky., in my new home at the Horseshoe Casino in southern Indiana. If anyone is in the area, you better look me up. Little Eddie (4) has already joined his first basketball team in true Hoosier fashion. He actually scored two baskets in his first game, and you know I couldn’t contain myself and caused a bit of a scene. Oh well, he may as well learn young about his loud mother’s embarrassing actions!

I heard from Alejandro Poma who checked in from El Salvador with this to say: "All is well in El Salvador. I am still working for the family, and my investments activity recently took me to India, Singapore and Indonesia, which is a very dynamic and exciting part of the world. Good food, too. I am planning on getting myself to the Reunion. Hope to see you then."

I also heard from Shan Chinnasamy, who shared a really cool story: "Newsworthy! I can brag about the opportunity to walk with Bill Gates alone for five minutes to a parking lot. My daughter goes to a Forest Ridge private school where his daughter is also attending school. I went for the father-daughter breakfast and after the event, Bill left the cafe to walk to the car. I introduced myself to him and walked with him to the parking lot where I also parked my car. Casual conversation about our daughters and I thanked him a lot for his philanthropic efforts in India and across the world. He talked about how happy he is about the re-election of the stable Congress government in India. It was a great, unique experience."

Phil Glick offers an update on his son Zack: "Zack has accepted a job with Syracuse Mayor Stephanie Minor. We are quite happy (ecstatic)! Zack has been volunteering for Mayor Minor during her successful campaign. After the election, he was on her transition team to write the new vision for the City of Syracuse, "Renewing the Promise of Syracuse" (syracuse.ny.us/home.aspx). In Section 6 of this document, Zack worked with the committee to write "the Government Modernization and Efficiency Section." In this section, Zack also had the opportunity to write his own job description (syracuse.ny.us/uploadedFiles/City_Hall/Mayors_Office/Content/Press_Releases/Transition%20Report.pdf). How many new graduates get that opportunity? For the next six months, while Zack is finishing his master’s degree in information management at the iSchool Syracuse University, he will be working full time for the Syracuse City School District (syracusecityschools.com) to help modernize their IT system. He will then be moving over to the mayor’s office." Phil and Drucy are still living in Bufffalo and do a great job of keeping in touch (hint-hint, the rest of you).

Last and certainly not least, we want to encourage everyone to close out their pledges to Kellogg during our graduation so that we can live up to our class commitment. The school depends on alumni support to survive, and we want to ensure it continues to be the top business school in the world.
