I’m happy to bring you another installment of life events, career moves and of course the usual potpourri of items garnered from conversations with classmates.
The Olympics haven’t been the only exciting thing in Canada this winter; Brian Lau has launched a line of men’s skincare products under the label Bread and Butter Skincare. It’s high-end and sold like a subscription. You may have seen some of their press mentions or their social marketing on Facebook, but if not check out breadandbutterskincare.com. The company is based in Canada but ships to the U.S.
I received a short note from London-based Campbell Lyle. Campbell wrote, "I’m still at McKinsey, now as an engagement manager. Work is very busy and family life is going well. Fergus (3) was joined by brother Arthur (1). We also have a Boxer dog Oscar (3), soon to be joined by a new puppy. I am getting grayer as a result! We catch up with Greg Borel and Jules Tydeman regularly."
Greg Yeadon said goodbye to Minnesota and relocated to the comparably warm confines of Connecticut. He left his good friends at 3M to be an associate brand manager at Energizer Personal Care in Shelton, Conn.
Zubin Vandrevala wrote in to wish everyone a very Happy New Year. He noted: "My wife Asmita and I spent Christmas and New Year with Mithun Sundar and his wife Divya in San Francisco, Los Angeles and San Diego. They were visiting us from cold New York and we had a blast together."
Anna Wrobel, Guido Kruse and Tibor Friedrich celebrated a long New Year’s weekend in Warsaw, Poland. The four days were marked by a healthy balance of local tourist attractions, beverages and sleep. With an "only-Kellogg-can-do-it" spirit, Guido led a brave expedition that crossed one of the longest and oldest bridges over the Vistula River, under highly unfavorable weather conditions. Anna wrote that the most important lesson of late 2009 was to be careful opening Ukrainian Spumante near an open suitcase, especially if it is full of white shirts fresh from the laundry.
Anna is working at McKinsey in Warsaw, Tibor is a project leader at BCG in Frankfurt and Guido lives in Germany where he is an entrepreneur.
Micah Murphy will be in Rhode Island for training through September with the U.S. Navy. He made a few stops to rally Kellogg friends en route to the East Coast, including visits to San Francisco and San Diego. Micah expects to return to San Diego in the fall and stay put for the next couple of years, but drop him a line if you will be in New England this spring or summer.
Marie Vu wrote in with some belated wedding news: "To add to all of the activity this summer, Matt Dobson and I were married in August in beautiful San Juan Capistrano, Calif. We were joined by our Kellogg friends and the MMM crew was well represented. Kellogg classmates in attendance included Jovan Willford and Michelle Nguyen, Megan and John Lyon, Sanem and Ryan Ahearn, Andrew Meigs, Devika Gupta, Neal and Angela Narayani, Jason Overbey, Joann and Paul Lee, Yvonne Chao and Sarah Williams. In addition to the wedding this summer, Matt and I moved to Dallas from Washington D.C. and Hershey, Pa., respectively. Matt is working for Emerson and I’m at Dr Pepper."
Glenn Papplardo and Beth Wherry wed Sept. 19 in Chicago. They were married at a church in Lincoln Park and had their reception downtown at the Murphy Auditorium. There were several Kellogg friends in attendance, including one sweaty Micah Murphy, who put on quite a dance spectacle! Beth writes, "In our typical wallflower fashion, both Glenn and I sang our own numbers with the band. Glenn sang ‘Sweet Caroline’ and I sang ‘Livin’ on a Prayer’ – obviously." They celebrated their marriage with a honeymoon in New Zealand and Bora Bora.
On Oct. 3, Meredith Wilson married Bo Parfet ‘06 in Beaver Creek, Colo., with more than 20 Kellogg friends in attendance.
Aditya Bhashyam is spending a lot of time in Detroit for work but meets up with Kellogg folks in Chicago regularly, including Moose sectionmates Eddie Meder, Michael Dickman, Ziv Bendor, Zipporah Allen, Karen Shea and Elaine Lo.
Adi also wrote in with news of a recent trip to India for a classmate’s wedding. Dhruv Patel wed Ekta Shah in December. Kellogg classmates and friends from all corners of the world were in attendance for the Patels’ wedding, including Akshaya Gulhati and his wife Kalyani, Farzeen Naziri ’09, Vatsala Misra, Vidya Nagashwaran, Lars Peters ’06, Niloy Sanyal, Emre Sucu, Aditya Bhashyam, Tad Kittredge ’06, Lebbonee (Price) Kittredge, Gaurav Tevatia and his wife Parul.
The wedding was at a beautiful resort close to Ahmedabad (where Dhruv and Ekta live now). The Patels spent their honeymoon in Lakshadweep and Kerala (South India) and the couple highly recommends both places. Dhruv joined his family business Gujarat Apollo Industries Ltd., a manufacturer of road construction machinery. Ekta took a leave of absence from work for the wedding festivities but will rejoin Oracle as usability engineer in March. Drop them a line if you will be in the area.
Queenie Yip and husband Ting-Kai Chou welcomed son Brody Robert Chou on Aug. 28. Brody weighed 8 pounds, 7 ounces. The family lives in Chicago and is doing well, including the "girls," Brownie and Sundae (the two small dogs).
Will Shontz arrived at 9:47 p.m. Sept. 26, weighing in at 3.48 kilograms. Proud father Anthony Shontz writes: "One day past the due date, he waited just long enough to let Dad finish a round of golf on Saturday, but not long enough for Mom to get any painkillers at the hospital. Another doll for Brooke’s collection, another superhero to join Andrew in battle, and finally proof that Matthew is not a baby anymore." The Shontz family relocated to London last summer where the newly expanded family of six is enjoying everything that Chelmsford has to offer.
Tiffany (Brooks) Bernal and Pablo Bernal are thrilled to share that their daughter Gabriela Bernal was born on Nov. 14. She joins big brother Sammy (2) at home in Bellevue, Wash. Pablo is a group product manager at Microsoft, while Tiffany is enjoying her time as a full-time mom.
Ashish Pandya writes: "My wife Ansonia gave birth to our first child, Sahana Pandya, at 6 p.m. on Dec. 11. She weighed 6 pounds, 14 ounces and measured 20 inches long. Mom and baby have been doing very well. We are still in Chicago, where I work in the corporate strategy group at NAVTEQ, a Nokia subsidiary. We are looking to move to the suburbs soon since our little daughter demands so much space!"
Chas Carol and Amanda Carol ‘06 are thrilled to announce the birth of their daughter, Emmaline Rose Carol. Clocking in at 7 pounds, 15 ounces and 21.25 inches, Emmaline was born on 11:11 a.m. on Dec. 19, timing her birth just right to let her parents stay at the hospital during the last blizzard of 2009. Chas writes that the family is doing well, and Amanda is taking to her new role as mom with aplomb.
Makoto Egami ‘07 and his wife Chiho welcomed baby girl Sara on Dec. 2 in Tokyo.
