— Full-Time
On a couple of personal notes, Julie made a big move from Dallas to Chicago to take a new position at Quaker. Julie will provide more details about her big move in the next issue, so stay tuned!
Natalie moved from Chicago to San Francisco in May to take a position with BrightSource Energy, a utility scale solar developer, heading up their project and structured finance group. Natalie is settling in quite well and happy living in Bay Area as it is a triathlon training mecca!
Marlisa Kopenski was promoted to brand director at Kahler Slater, a new position at the interdisciplinary design firm headquartered in Milwaukee (kahlerslater.com). She lives in Madison, Wis., with her husband Tim Condon and their daughters Beatrix (4) and Rosabelle (1).
Bernardo Silva and wife Christine had their first son, Nicolas, in June. They took him to Brazil during the holidays and he had a blast with his family and friends there.
Santos Alberto Gaza ran his first half-marathon in January in Houston. It took him 2:24 to complete the 13.1 miles. Congratulations, Santos!
The Arnold-Norton family is certainly celebrating a "New" Year in 2010. Katie writes in: "We celebrated Severyn and Colin’s first birthday this holiday season (born Dec. 17, 2008). Maeve (3.5 years) is a natural big sister and enjoys dressing both her brother and sister in Disney princess attire. Evan accepted a position with a newly formed venture arm of Abbott Labs. Evan will be joining Abbott Ventures as a director of medical technology venture investments. I work with private medical technology companies as an independent marketing consultant. My full-time practice focuses on commercialization strategies and launch plans. As a result of Evan’s new job, the family is moving from the Bay Area to the Chicago area. We are relocating to Wilmette, Ill., and look forward to reconnecting with many Kellogg classmates as well as hosting fellow classmates who pass through the area. We are sad to leave our many friends in the Bay Area but welcome the new adventures in Chicago."
Jay and Jill Koval spent the holidays in Cabo with their three girls (twins Rylie and Laney, and Caroline). The girls are swimming like fish, and Caroline is convinced she is as old as her sisters.
Kate Solomon launched a new business: Babobotanicals (babobotanicals.com), providing pure organic solutions for babies and kids. Go to the Web site and check it out. Go Kate!
Catherine Vaughn tells us: "Markus and I are delighted to announce the arrival of our daughter, Alexandra Maria Vaughn Deutsch. ‘Lexi’ was born Aug. 10 and has been on the go ever since, with several stamps in her passport already. Now she’s taking a ‘dance’ class in hopes of someday displaying her talent in Special K. It’s too early to tell if she’s a candidate for Kelloggarhythms, unless they’re looking for a voice to sing the part of a pterodactyl."
Sweta Shah celebrated her wedding to Monil Shah on Sept 19 in Ann Arbor, Mich. Like most Indian wedding celebrations, it included multiple events (from Wednesday to Saturday), many traditions (i.e. groom on horse, bridal henna), many people (350+ guests), and much dancing (with sticks called dandiya). Kellogg attendees included Leticia Barcenas, Matt Courson, Luciane Galluci, Priya Rajagopalan, Rich Saad and Ashwini Sawhney.
Samantha Levine, husband Neil Segall and big brother Jasper welcomed baby brother Benjamin Segall into the family on Aug. 10. Sam says: "He was a healthy 9 pounds, 4 ounces and continues on that trajectory — meaning he grows out of clothes faster than you can blink an eye, drinks more milk than you think is possible, and requires extra bath time for all the folds. He’s also a charming boy, a great sleeper and tremendously patient, all great qualities for a second kid. Jasper’s adjusting well and is particularly enjoying ‘helping’ Benjamin learn to roll over." Sam’s still working part-time at The Bridgespan Group and still enjoying it.
Doug Monro writes in: "Arthur James Monro was born July 24 and big brother Tom and of course dad are very proud. I’m working in London as COO of a real estate start-up, Zoopla.co.uk, which is growing rapidly. Between work, Kim and the boys, I am keeping very busy."
Hiroyuki Tanaka and his wife Ayaka had baby girl Eiri on March 19, 2009. He also changed his job last year and is in the real estate investment banking division of Macquarie in Tokyo.
Amanda Hansen writes in with some incredible news: "I received news in late December that I have beaten cancer (and that my chemotherapy treatment is over). I can’t thank you all enough for your words of encouragement, in cards and e-mails, for your well wishes sent, through phone calls and brownies, and for the love I felt, through virtual hugs and shoulders to cry on. The day I found out I had cancer, a dear friend from Kellogg happened to be in town for work. He helped Mike and I through those first few hours of shock (he had personal experiences to draw upon) and from that point on I realized how truly lucky I was to have such remarkable Kellogg friends that would help me through this. Thank you."
