Al Scherer reports: "I live in Chicago’s western suburbs with my lovely wife Amy and our beautiful daughter Elizabeth (5). I am the e-commerce software architect for privately held Follett Higher Education Group of Oakbrook, Ill. I’m responsible for the design, performance and stability of over 1,500 e-commerce store fronts serving the K-12 market and higher education institutions across the U.S. and Canada. Our e-commerce revenues have grown tenfold in the five years I’ve been here and we’ve added B2B, B2C and other applications to our suite of offerings. I’ve always had a love for all things technology and recently contributed to a new software book, Programming Scala. Oh, and I sometimes think the most difficult questions I face come from my 5-year-old. ‘What’s above the sky, daddy?’ ‘Outer space, honey.’ ‘And what’s above space?’ ‘Umm ... uhh ... Go ask your mother.’"

Tim Cartwright was part of a group in Naples, Fla., that worked in late 2009 to try to bring the Chicago Cubs to their area for spring training. Unfortunately for the Naples group, the Chicago Cubs announced Jan. 27 that they would work exclusively with Mesa, Ariz., to negotiate a new spring training facility. Tim noted in a press release: "Our private group remains ready to bring the Cubs to Collier County should the remaining hurdles to a binding agreement not be overcome. Working with the Ricketts family has been a pleasure at every point in the process. I want to wish them the best with their decision and also remind them that Florida stands ready to step in."

Tina Hanzlik, Roz Roseboro, John O’Loughlin and Frank Hanzlik ’96 took a trip to Las Vegas together to see a U2 concert.

Sharyle Doherty has changed roles at Ultimate Software (where she has been employed for 11 years). Her new role is Canadian program executive. She writes: "I’m responsible for developing a business plan for the Canadian market and ensuring the success of our customers in Canada. I’m happy to be spending more time in Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver and other places up north!"
