1997 — Part-Time

In January, John Abele took the role of global managing partner for the marketing and sales offices practice of Heidrick & Struggles. He writes: "H&S has the largest marketing and only dedicated sales practice of the major executive search firms. It keeps me in the deal flow for many alums (in down economies like now, perhaps too many)."

Philip Anthony has been quite busy with anniversaries lately. Phil and his wife Eileen are celebrating their fifth in March, and the two have since added two young boys to the family. Phil's product design and development consulting firm, Design Integrity (DI), celebrated its 10th anniversary in January in its Fulton Market loft just west of downtown Chicago. DI has 20 employees and has established long- term client relationships with several top Midwest firms, including Illinois Tool Works, Baxter and SRAM. He attributes part of his success to the pointed advice given to him by Kellogg Professor Philip Kotler on his initial business plan.

Apart from his time at work and with the family, Phil is spending his free time (what free time?) starting and managing a national professional motorcycle endurance road racing team, which will be competing in the ASRA Team Challenge series this year. Phil has been living in his Bucktown two-room flat since he started with TMP in 1994. A single family conversion looks imminent for this next year with the growing family, and the Chicago school system may force the happy family to the 'burbs in a few more years.

Rob Lynch reports: "All good on the Lynch home front, still with Biotronik as a regional sales director in Chicago, and my lovely wife Karin is making some nice headway as vice president of Corporate Golf Incentives. Ben (7) is preparing diligently for his upcoming first Communion on May 2."

Ken Kring's new book, Business Strategy Mapping: The Power of Knowing How It All Fits Together, is available online atbusinessstrategymapping.com/index.htm. Congratulations Ken! He can be reached at KringStrategyMapping@gmail.com.

Vladimir Resnick braved the Moscow winter and the global economic crisis as a newly appointed CEO of Watson Wyatt LLC, the Russian subsidiary of consultancy Watson Wyatt Worldwide. He writes, "While the frequent travel between the continents with Yelena and kids Sarah (11), Benjamin (9) and Julie (8) still staying in Chicago is taxing, the joys of building a business in an exciting place provide ample compensation."

John P. Strelecky was recently wandering around Honduras. This year is slated to be a big travel year, he says. In addition to his recent trip, he has been asked to speak in the Netherlands and India about the principles from his book, The Big Five for Life — Leadership's Greatest Secret. John was recently honored alongside Oprah Winfrey, Tom Peters and Wayne Dyer as one of the top 100 Thought Leaders in the field of leadership and personal development. He and his wife, Cindy Zhao '01, love being parents to their little girl Sophia (2). Feel free to drop him a line through his site at bigfiveforlife.com.

Mike '98 and Stacy Devine have had quite the year professionally. They write: "We combined our private wealth management practice at Lehman Brothers at the end of 2007. That was interesting timing as we went through the bankruptcy of Lehman and transition to Barclays in the fall of 2008. Ultimately, we are now glad to be with Barclays and we decided to 'double down' and work together. On the home front, our two boys Connor (6) and Zach (4) continue to be great."

Elizabeth Sears Smith was named deputy cabinet secretary under White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel. Smith has served in a chief of staff role to Emanuel since he was elected to Congress in 2002. Previously, she served in the Clinton administration as a deputy assistant secretary in the International Trade Administration at the Department of Commerce.
