The news for 1992 grows shorter each time as fewer of you send your news. Come on you lazy lugnuts, time to step up!

Elaine Whitney was elected to the Westport Connecticut Board of Education.
Despite his legacy status and the perquisite of being paid entirely in product, Eric Llopis left the Miller Brewing Co. where he was director of competitive strategy. Eric has joined the Pepsi Bottling Group as senior vice president and chief strategy officer and has relocated from Milwaukee, Wis., to New York.
James Keane, former executive vice president and general counsel of the YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago, has joined the Boys & Girls Clubs of Chicago as president and CEO.
Andrea Azzimondi is with Pali Investment Research in London and wants to reconnect with Peter Wright.
Davin McAndrews, Kevin Sidders and Bill Lakenan enjoyed a ski weekend in Beaver Creek, Colo. Sir Sidders comments, "Since we're all 'between gigs' at the moment, it seemed like a good time to get away. A great time was had by all."
Some sad news: Bob Armour told me that our classmate Dan Sullivan passed away on Sept. 17 in Loveland, Ohio, after a long battle with brain cancer. Bob writes, "Dan was my roommate, and he was a person of great integrity, humor and loyalty. He will be missed dearly."
Memorials may be made to St. Columban Church, 894 Oakland Road, Loveland, Ohio, 45140, in care of the Daniel J. Sullivan Memorial Fund. Condolences may be offered to the family online at edgingtonfuneralhomes.com.
William Emmons was promoted to assistant vice president in the banking supervision policy and risk analysis unit of the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis.
Jeff Conlon was named president of Kaplan Higher Education.
Scott Schur made a big change last autumn. First, after many years at Intel, he joined LSI Systems as operations manager. Apparently LSI was attracted to Moose's positive attitude because all autumn he was constantly proclaiming, "Yes we can!"
Gary Ger was promoted to vice president with Danaher's test equipment business (Fluke) in Seattle. Moose tells me that Gary hopes to run Danaher's BBQ business one day should the voracious acquirer ever buy one. Pat Burns recently left Trex to join Danaher as general manager of one of its business groups.
Bernie Armstrong laments that the financial services business in Geneva is as bad as it is on the other side of the pond.
Carmen and Doug Hachenburg settled in Puerto Rico about 10 years ago and now have two children, Gustavo (11) and Carmina (9). Doug updates: "After spending time in industry and consulting, I am a senior vice president in human resources at Banco Popular. Joe Husman visited Puerto Rico over Thanksgiving and we showed him San Juan and other parts of the island, reminisced about Kellogg and caught up on mutual friends. We shared Thanksgiving Day in our country farmhouse in the central mountain region and had a great time."
Tom Finke writes: "After 10 plus years running Internet businesses at Tribune Company, I joined Axiom, a law firm with a novel business model. Axiom attorneys work on site with clients, and it's not a partnership. As a result, Axiom's fees are less than half the rates of a traditional law firm. I am the general manager of the Chicago office, responsible for client development and recruiting attorneys. On the home front, Lisa (Gollob Finke) and I continue to be active cheerleaders and parent volunteers for our children's sports teams. Over the past few years, we have coached baseball, basketball, soccer and tennis. In addition, we continue to run The Carol Gollob Foundation for Breast Cancer Research, hosting an annual tennis clinic. We are indebted to our Kellogg classmates who continue to help us make the event a success: Bob Armour, Julie and Doug Carlucci, Mark Cozzi, Tony Hoban, Jack Polsky '93, Matt Shapiro '93, Sue and Steve Slaughter and Kristin and Doug Struckman."
Eric Degenfelder, who relocated to Shanghai with DuPont, is enjoying China and other Asian nations he visits. He comments, "Shanghai is a great city and there's a lot to learn about people and how business gets done here."
Steve Crook is secretary, research and conservation director and speaker director for Fox River Valley Muskies Club and, obviously, an avid angler. In August, he successfully released a 52-inch, 41-pound muskellunge in northern Ontario that either jumped into his arms or he caught fishing. Either way, nice catch!
Returning to the eye-care business, David Murphy joined CibaVision as a top dog in global marketing. David, Isabel and the three kids moved from Jacksonville to Jones Creek, Ga. (a northern suburb of Atlanta). David is very enthusiastic about his new job but was working long hours as his department was understaffed. By chance, the Murphys settled in a few miles away from my sister, Jessie Herman '82 and the extended Murphy family joined us for post-Thanksgiving cocktails at her house.
In February, yours truly had a few moments to catch up with Matt McCall at the Kellogg Capital/Private Equity Conference where we were both panelists (Matt about the state of the venture capital industry and I about Cleantech investing). Matt's industry insight, candor and clear perspectives were both impressive and refreshing — especially in these days of gloom. It was also nice to see Matt keeping the DFJ network involved in recruiting at Kellogg and helping to rope Tim Draper as a keynote speaker. |
