EMP-60

Greetings from Las Vegas! Thanks to everyone who sent in updates for our first published class column.

Last August, some of us were lucky enough to join Stu Abelson and his gorgeous bride Katherine at their amazing wedding on the idyllic Mackinac Island. As expected, it was a first-class event, completely black-tie with a rocking 10-person party band. I don't think the Grand Hotel or the Island for that matter has ever had such a rowdy group. EMP-60 proudly ruled the famous Pink Pony Pub for three nights.

Dave Hemink and his wife Kristin welcomed Kolby Reese into the family on Dec. 20. Along with big sister Laine, the foursome is enjoying life in their new home in Stowe, MA. Dave is enjoying his post at Bard Electrophysiology, running the company's U.S. sales division.

David Krauskopf and his wife Dana welcomed their son Alexander David on January 8th. With 11 hours of labor, Dana is my new hero for having delivered a 9-pound, 4-ounce baby with an all-natural childbirth.

Matt Williams has been jet-setting to Europe to work with a sister agency in Germany.  He spent most of his time in Frankfurt and Zurich. In December, he was named partner at the Martin Agency so all that travel and Kellogg have really paid off for him.

Randy "R-Money" McCreary says, "I am a lover, not a writer." So not much of an update from him, but he is looking forward to a new project that will have him working in California for several months. I politely reminded him that Las Vegas is a quick car ride away.

JoJo Chesney is starting an intense new job search this spring, so we look forward to hearing where she lands. She had a hectic holiday season with hosting four parties and buying and wrapping 337 gifts. Wow, that is more than Oprah!

Don Hammond is still gaining traction with his new company and enjoying the challenges of being an entrepreneur. He enjoyed his vacation with his family in Wales and England last summer.

Vance Strader updates that his job rocks and life is good.  Last year, he was named director of special projects at Harley Davidson. He is still working out what the "special" part really means, but has put his EMP education to immediate use.

Happy Birthday to little Sam, Vana Matte's son who was born during our school days.  On Jan. 12, he was two years old. Can you believe it? Vana reports that he is already confident and outgoing, and she has been thrilled to spend more time at home with him since leaving Capital One.

Phil Glick and family spent a great New Year's Eve celebrating here in Vegas. They stayed at The Mandalay Bay and rang in the New Year at the fabulous Wynn Resort. We had the pleasure of dining with them, and Eddie and Phil golfed as well in the 75-degree weather. All had a great time!

Tom Himmel and his fantastic wife Tracey are celebrating their 10-year wedding anniversary with a fantastic "kids-free" Hawaiian vacation this spring.

Ron Keating and family have relocated to Houston. He is still with Kennametal, and is happy to be at home in God's Country (in case y'all didn't know, that's Texas).

Mike Rafi had some big career news for us. Immediately after school, he worked around the clock for months on the largest deal his company has ever made. The acquisition and strategic alliance with CAT makes JLG No. 1 in the world for telehandlers and aerial lifts. If you are in the market for one of those, call your friend Mikey. The hard work has paid off with a great promotion. He has left his post as assistant general counsel and director of corporate development to run the business unit the deal has created. As general manager of the Caterpiller Alliance Group, he is reporting directly to the CEO. Their stock (JLG) has had a nice run up the past six months, so let's just hope Mike negotiated for lots of options.

Last and certainly not least, the Fab Four (Ron Harris, Todd Putz, Rich Rusnack and Alan Handley) hit a Bears game earlier in the season. They enjoyed watching them pummel Green Bay. It was a perfect day of cold, snow, beer, brats, burgers, vodka and a great many laughs.

Looking forward to seeing you all on campus at our reunion May 5-7!
