Additional News:

Jean-Francois Dieudonne left Sainsbury's in April 2005 and moved to Melbourne Australia with his then-fiancée Melanie. He has also changed careers (once again) from retail to fund management and joined JF Capital Partners in May 2005 (a JV with JP Morgan Asset Management) in Melbourne, Australia. Life is great "down under" and the lifestyle is surprisingly similar to Europe. Jean-Francois and Melanie were married on Dec. 9 in St. Killda, Melbourne.

James Kim left Coherent last year and founded Opinmind, a blog search engine. Opinmind scours the web for blogs and collects the opinions of bloggers on every subject imaginable. Every day, bloggers visit Opinmind to connect with people with similar interests while executives frequent Opinmind to track candid consumer sentiment on their brands, products and services.

Remembering Vinicio M. Urdaneta

Unfortunately, our friend Vinicio passed away on Oct. 24. His death was a huge loss to all of us. He was extremely generous, intelligent and kind, the best and dearest friend. In the case of Vinicio, no adjectives are enough to describe the positive impact he had on others. Without exaggeration or clichés, he was an outstanding person. He established strong rapport and true friendships with people from all over the world, was extremely empathic and would stand by people both in good and difficult times. Vinicio represented Kellogg values. He was a natural leader and key driver of many of the activities we shared at Kellogg, from the Peruvian booth at "Tastes of Kellogg" to the Brazil GIM trip, from the Latin Masses to LAHiMA activities. He had a special characteristic of bringing a unique balance of enthusiasm, humor and creativity, and at the same time, calm, depth and inclusiveness. For us, his friends, he was simply the best.

Vinicio was part of a united Catholic family, from whom he learned love and respect for others, values he shared with everyone. Smart and talented, always a good student at school and university, able to tackle the more difficult courses at Kellogg, a wonderful piano and guitar player and outstanding at sports. He was well admired for excelling at almost everything he tried.

Unfortunately, in early 2000 he was diagnosed with hydrocephaly, an abnormal condition in which excess fluid builds up in the brain, causing pressure and potentially damaging the brain. Vinicio had to go through various brain surgeries in the last five years and only his inner strength and optimism and the support from family and friends drove him to continue with his life as usual. Despite the headaches and the obvious uneasiness this ordeal caused, he graduated from Kellogg in June 2001 and started working with McKinsey & Co. in Latin America.

Regrettably, the damage fiercely intensified and in Lima in January 2005, Vinicio lost consciousness and stayed under intensive care at a hospital for a number of months until he passed away in October. We were all, of course, shocked with the bad news.

Dear Vinicio, we recognize that you were going through enormous suffering and so, we can only wish you are at peace now. But be sure that your friendship, your charisma and your ability to untap the best of everyone are still alive inside us and always will be.

Your friends,

Matilde Ramirez '01, Sandra Holme '02, Francisco Osores '00
