1996
Tim
Daniels and
Catherine Tantoco Daniels had an eventful year.
The first half of the year saw them celebrating daughter Ava's
first birthday and renovating a newly purchased flat in the
Marylebone area of Central London. Then in July, Catherine
was in the same carriage with and less than 20 feet away from
the terrorist bomber who struck the subway. Catherine suffered
some horrible injuries and spent time in and out of the hospital.
She took three months of medical leave to recuperate and Tim
was able to take compassionate leave to help her (and I am
sure to recuperate himself). During her recuperation, Catherine
met the queen and the mayor of London. Catherine and Tim write:
"While things were terrible for our families in the immediate
aftermath and our healing physically and emotionally still
continues, we cannot get over how lucky we are that Catherine
is still alive. The irony is this event — a result of
an inherently evil act — taught us how much good there
is in the world, mostly by the love and support we felt from
family, friends and colleagues." Back at work part-time,
Catherine is in a new role as global brand marketing manager
for Lysol Innovations Worldwide at Reckitt Benckiser. Tim
also took on a new role at work, becoming finance director
for all of the Barclays credit card businesses outside of
the United Kingdom. Catherine and Tim hope to make it over
for the reunion.

Bernard
Dallé writes that he finally tied the knot with Agnieszka
Buchacz in Warsaw on Sept. 10. They met five years ago in
Malaga, Spain. "The wedding ceremony was fantastic; we
then took off for two weeks to Hawaii." Fellow Kelloggians
present included Olaf Tarrach, Tina Silvester Echterhoff,
Mirabel Gombe '97 and Dawn Skelton Cooke. Bernard
and Agnieszka have been living in London for one-and-a-half
years. She works in private banking and Bernard is in venture
capital.
The
7.0 mixed doubles tennis team captained by John Glushik
and Robyn Runyan Glushik advanced to the North
Carolina state tournament in September. This is the second
year in a row their team has represented Durham/Chapel Hill
in the state championships. Coincidentally, the team included
former Kellogg professor Tim Bollerslev.
Minako
Yago Aono was married two years ago to Mori Aono. They
had twins on July 2: Kohei (boy) and Sumire (girl). Minako
is working for Pfizer Japan, which is her third job after
Kellogg, although she is currently on maternity leave. She
and Mori are hoping to make it to Chicago for the reunion.
The
annual college "football pilgrimage" was held in
Atlanta this year where several Kelloggians witnessed the
Georgia Bulldogs play the Arkansas Razorbacks in October.
Kurt Plumer, John Danahy, Tim Leland,
Ted Oldham, Walt O'Shea, David Stokes and
Mike Wagner had a great time cheering on the "Dawgs."
Trip regulars Brian Kiraly and Todd Ziegenfus
were missed.
David
Stokes recently purchased Grey Eagle Distributors, the exclusive
Anheuser-Busch distributorship for St. Louis County. Grey
Eagle sells more than 7 million cases of beer each year and
services more than 1,500 accounts in the territory. David
is enjoying his new role as a business owner and is looking
forward to settling down in St. Louis with his wife Dee and
three children, Connor, Chase and Avery.
Traci
and Keith Dunnell announce the birth of Samuel James
on April 15, 2005. They write: "We are really
enjoying him, and Kaelyn really likes her little brother.
Not that our house wasn't noisy before with just Kaelyn, but
now it's even more lively! Kaelyn is now 2 , and is quite the 'big' girl. She's
made some friends here in the United Kingdom already and really
enjoys going to nursery. We moved to the United Kingdom this
past summer with Keith's acceptance of a new assignment for
Avery Dennison, managing their U.K. and Ireland office products
division. It's been quite an exciting opportunity for our
whole family to live abroad and experience Great Britain and
Europe."

Raphaela
and John Dunlap are settled in Toronto with two children, Oliver
(3) and Alexandra (10 months). John works with the family
real estate brokerage company and is enjoying spending time
serving as a board member on the Southlake Regional Health
Centre Foundation. The Foundation is helping to build a $150
million regional cancer center for the 300-bed hospital. John
is also chairman of The Royal Horse Show, which annually attracts
more than 300,000 visitors and 1,200 competitors and will
be celebrating its 84th year in November.
Anne
and Rob Rozwat have had another exciting year, welcoming
daughter Madison into the world last April. Rob continues
to do information technology consulting but perhaps should
consider a career as a builder after learning how to do drywalling,
electrical, plumbing and hardwood floor installation last
year while working on their new house. Anne writes: "Madison's
bedroom and the kitchen are now finished and look great. But
several more rooms to go." Avid skier Rob was excited
to introduce Madison to the world of skiing while on a family
trip during Christmas. Unfortunately, Madison was unable to
ski due to the lack of baby-sized ski boots (maybe next year,
Rob)!

Andre
Walker, Roger Shubert '97, and Dan Wikel '00 are happy
to announce that the City of Chicago is finally smoke-free!
On Dec. 8, the Chicago City Council adopted Alderman Ed Smith's
proposed Clean Indoor Air ordinance. The ordinance, which
took effect on Jan. 16, bans smoking in nearly all public
spaces, restaurants and workplaces.
The three alumni are all longtime volunteers with the
American Cancer Society in Chicago. Andre and Roger also serve
on the board of directors of the American Cancer Society Illinois
Division Inc. All were actively involved in the SmokeFree
Chicago Coalition grassroots advocacy campaign led by the
ACS. They are now focused on making a smoke-free Illinois
a reality.
Pablo
Zurzolo just returned
from traveling in west Africa. He writes: "I have passed
the two-year mark of my extended 'sabbatical' and have been
dreading the whole job search process, but I guess it has
to happen sometime. I am looking forward to reconnecting with
everyone in May and in the meantime would love to hear from
anyone passing through Tampa!"
Sarath
Ravipati and Carla Johnson Ravipati moved to Cape
Town, South Africa in January. Sarath transferred with Chevron
and is the regional procurement manager for the Africa-Pakistan
region. Sarath and Carla are enjoying showing their children,
Deven (5) and Karina (3), the beauty of Table Mountain, the
beaches and wine country. Carla never thought that after her
GIM trip to South Africa that she could go back there to live,
so she's thrilled. They unfortunately won't make reunion but
welcome anyone to visit. Carla's e-mail address is carla_ravipati@yahoo.com.
Bill
Kaufmann writes: "I turned 2 x 2 x 2 x 5 in November.
The smoke from my cake was significant enough that a group
of Kelloggians sped to Stinson Beach, Calif. (just north of
San Francisco) with extinguishers. Helping to put out the
fire and enjoying a barbecue on the sand were Laura Kuo,
Sarath Ravipati, Carla Johnson Ravipati, Eileen
Gallagher, Karena Strella, Tom McCleary,
Chris Ressel Summersgill, Phil Yau '95, Mark Medema '95,
Todd Krueger '95, Paul Machle '94, George Bischof '94, and
Kerry O'Rourke Bischof '95.
Esteban
Bullrich, founder and former president of the Kellogg
and Northwestern Alumni Club of Argentina, has been elected
as a representative to the Argentine Congress in the national
elections held in October. He has been representing the people
of Buenos Aires City since December.
An
update from Lisa Damkroger:
"Lisa
Damkroger and John Earnhardt were married Memorial Day
weekend in Portola Valley, Calif. Lisa and John have settled
in Palo Alto, a stone's throw away from Lisa's alma mater
with lots of great restaurants, golf courses, bike rides and
weather to enjoy! Lisa is still with Guidant, having held
several different sales and marketing roles since joining
the medical device manufacturer post-Kellogg. She is currently
the vice president of sales and marketing of Guidant's cardiac
surgery business. John is a North Carolina native, worked
in D.C. and now is in government affairs with Cisco Systems.
"The
following Kellogians joined in on the wedding celebration:
Stacy Haughey Braatz, Mike Braatz '98, Shari Keith
Guggenhime and Andrew Guggenhime. Mike and Stacy
have two kids Abigail (3) and Theo (1) and have recently moved
out to the 'burbs — Wellesley — after nine years
in Boston. Stacy is with Sankaty Advisors (a division of Bain
Capital) as finance director. Mike is the vice president of
business development at Pango Networks, a software company
specializing in location software for wireless networks.

"Shari,
a bridesmaid in the wedding, and Andrew are blessed with three
children, Riley (3) — a flower girl — and Cooper
and Brodie (2). Needless to say, they have their hands full.
Shari has been a full-time mom since she left Goldman Sachs
to have Riley; Andrew is the chief financial officer of NeoForma
(just acquired by Global Healthcare Exchange), a healthcare
supply chain software company where he's been for five years.
The Earnhardts and Guggenhimes live a few miles from each
other and get together often.
"Two
Kellogians who were unable to make it to the wedding were Heather
Hartung Vacek and Jane Coyne (MMM). Heather recently
made a career switch after several years in high-tech marketing
and is currently working toward her master's of divinity at
Duke. Heather and her husband, Gary, have a 7-year-old soccer
and t-ball player, Luke. Jane also has taken an atypical step
in her career after many years in high-tech in the Bay Area.
She is in her third year with Médecins Sans Frontières, currently
stationed in New York City after a stint in Nigeria, putting
her operations expertise to use as a logistician for this medical
humanitarian organization." |
