  Class of 1978
Sarajane Siegfriedt '78, Carol Spomer '78 and Anita Colombo '79 in a blueberry patch on Whidbey Island, Wash.

1978

Richard Moore writes: "I spent the last 25 years in consulting and financial software development (i.e. IBM, PricewaterhouseCoopers, my own firm and various software companies), primarily in Chicago. In 1998, my partners and I sold a software company to SS&C Technologies Inc., which was recently acquired by the Carlyle Group. Since then, my family and I relocated to the Orlando area where I have continued consulting and investing through my own company (rma-solutions.com). I am also affiliated with the University of Central Florida (UCF) Small Business Development and Entrepreneur Center/Incubator. My wife Debbie is working with the Florida Hospital System and is working on her doctoral degree in nursing at UCF. Our two boys, Doug (14) and Dave (12), keep us busy with their school and athletic activities. We are enjoying the Orlando area, and also, more recently, the mountains of western North Carolina. This latter destination was picked by our two labrador retrievers, Deja and Darry."

Mike French writes: "I am continuing to enjoy my global role as vice president of consumer insights at Brown-Forman, a marketer of spirits and wine brands such as Jack Daniel's, Southern Comfort, Canadian Mist, Korbel Champagne, and Fetzer, Bolla, and Sonoma-Cutrer wines. Two of my three sons are now in college — Brian is a junior at Columbia University, and Matthew is a freshman and the University of Kentucky. Son number three, Sean, is completing seventh grade. My wife Robin, whom I met while at Kellogg, has a small landscaping business. We love Louisville."

Betsy Brenner writes: "I'm in a (relatively) new job that's brought me back to the Midwest. After six newspapers in the nearly 28 years since we graduated, I've added another one. Since January '05, I've been the publisher and president of The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. There's plenty to do to keep a major metro newspaper evolving as we keep one foot in 'old media' and push forward into the electronic future.  Great job, great town, great community, great beer! Steve and I welcome any and all GSM colleagues — especially during Summerfest. I'm near classmate Ellen Baras, securities analyst with The Northern Trust Bank in Chicago. And last summer, we traveled eastward to visit Sherry Umberfield and Mike Zack outside of Boston.  Sherry is taking a career break while she keeps up with 17-year-old Jimmy and pre-teen soccer star Katie Zack. Mike is a full professor at Northeastern University. (Dr. Zack?  Did we ever envision it?) My e-mail address is bbrenner@journalsentinel.com. Stay in touch — and come see us!"

Hiro Yamamoto writes: "After Kellogg, I worked for Suntory, the Japanese alcohol and non-alcohol company, for 18 years. I then moved to Coca-Cola Japan as a senior vice president. I became CEO of Coca-Cola Bottling Co. Enterprises and National Vending Company LLC, then assumed the CEO position of H. J. Heinz Japan. I decided four years ago to quit the rat race and opened a small Japanese restaurant in Petaluma, Calif., 60 miles north of San Francisco. The restaurant received a five-star review from the local newspaper, and the business is going well. Moreover, I play golf three days a week and have no stress or pressure. I plan to open up a new restaurant this year. I thought I could be semi-retired, but I cannot help having a desire to grow. My education at Kellogg should be blamed for this matter, and I am expecting busier days ahead. You can see the restaurant at hirosrestaurant.com, although the site is a little old."

Mark Nishan writes:  "I have changed positions at the Comptroller of the Currency.  After seven years as chief of staff, I have been appointed by the comptroller to a new position: executive officer for leadership, learning and workplace fairness. My new position signals a renewed and heightened commitment to training, leadership, and succession planning at the agency. I am most pleased by this change and look forward to its challenges. The Comptroller of the Currency is a bureau of the Treasury Department whose primary responsibility is to ensure the safe and sound operation of the national banking system."

Chris Gillock writes:  "The big news with the Gillocks is the establishment by my wife, Connie, of the Gillock Gallery. She has been running the gallery out of our house for the past few years and finally outgrew the residence. The Gillock Gallery is located at 1402 Greenleaf Street, Evanston, IL 60202. The phone number is 847.864.3799. A Chicago location will be opening soon at 3717 North Ravenswood Avenue, Suite 2919 E, Chicago, Ill. 60613. The phone number will be 312-545-3999. Connie is representing local, national and international artists, and she is continuing to produce her own paintings, mostly portraits. She is accepting clients for portrait commissions. Her e-mail address is gillockgallery@yahoo.com."

Casey Nolan writes: "I am a managing director with Navigant Consulting Inc., where I am responsible for the firm's healthcare strategy practice. I am based in Washington, D.C., but spend virtually all my time on the road. In addition to my full-time consulting work, I am an associate professor at the Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health, where I teach a course on healthcare strategy to second-year graduate students. I have a 16-year-old daughter, Erin Leigh, and she and I live in northern Virginia.

Carol Spomer writes: "Sarajane Siegfriedt and I reunited with Anita Colombo '79 over Labor Day weekend at Anita's new home on Whidbey Island, Wash."
