1995
The
Class of '95 is headed back to campus for our upcoming 10-year
reunion. From the notes that I've seen, we are going to have
a great turnout. Our goal is to have the highest percentage
of people who have ever returned for the 10-year bash. If
you haven't already bought your tickets and booked your hotels,
then put down this magazine and go online and book a ticket.
See you May 6-8. So with that, here is some news to whet your
appetites:
Peter
Vladimir Urbanc and wife Diana announce with much joy
the birth of daughter Sasha Danielle on Nov. 24. Sasha joins
2-year-old brother Michael. Peter is working as a director
in debt capital markets at Barclays Capital in New York.
Jules
and Ruth Veloria
added to their clan last fall with a pair of twins. Julianne
Claire Veloria and Kieran Robert Veloria arrived Sept. 27
at 12:50 and 12:51 p.m., respectively. Julianne weighed 5
pounds, 15 ounces, and Kieran was 5 pounds, 13 ounces. (You
do the math — that's a lot of baby.) At last report,
Ruth and the twins were doing well. No update on daddy's condition.

I
thought Frank Wettercamp was missing in action, but he says: "I am not really missing. I
showed up singing beautifully at Lawrence Chan's wedding this summer. But I'm still waiting for my
first big-label contract. Therefore I am still at PwC, where
I run PwC-Munich's business recovery services team. We are
just 15 minutes outside of Munich in the beautiful Bavarian
countryside. Henry had his first day in a Bavarian school
yesterday. Marie's first day in a Bavarian kindergarten is
today. Whenever one of you is in Munich, let me know! Lawrence
Chan told me already that he would be in Munich a couple of
times per year. Guests are always welcome."
Brent
Harrison reflects on
changes that have taken place over the past 10 years: "It's
a strange feeling to approach our 10th reunion. It doesn't
seem so long ago, and yet I look at my four roommates from
second year (Jonas Cedergren, Jakob Benber, J. Carroll and Tyler
Stevens) with whom I
remain close, and we've produced nine kids among us since
we were together at Kellogg."
Carolyn
Olsen reports: "I
am living in the Bay Area with my husband Tim (married a couple
of years ago). I recently moved out of the city to the peninsula
and am working at eBay (PayPal)."
When
I sent out notification of Kellogg's No. 1 Business Week ranking,
I got this modest little reply from Willy Castillo: "This is great news, and I feel elated for the
school and for Dean Jain. Just to let you know, I am currently
living in Washington, D.C., where I am working at the time.
I am ambassador of Guatemala to the United States and it's
been a great experience so far. Looking forward to seeing
you next year at our 10-year reunion." Willy has been
hanging out with "W" (President Bush). Willy's first
welcome reunion was held in New Jersey with an old Kellogg
study group.

Todd
Dorrien became a daddy again: "We are thrilled to
announce the birth of William James Dorrien — otherwise
known as Baby Liam. He was born Oct. 4 weighing a little less
than 8 pounds and measuring 20 and some inches. He and mom
and dad are doing well, while big sister Mia is reserving
judgment until a later date. The William is after Todd's g-g-g-great
grandfather from Scotland and James is after Sue's father,
also of Scottish origin. He may have a kilt in his future!
He was born on the feast day of Saint Francis of Assisi, the
patron saint of animals, and as we were leaving the hospital,
a whole flock of birds landed in the trees and started singing.
We hope little Liam gets a chance to meet you all soon!"
John
Martin is still in NYC
and he's started his own consulting firm. As he says: "I
am interested in helping smaller-size companies grow intelligently.
I would like to pursue private companies with enterprise values
ranging from $2 million to $50 million, through two avenues:
1) consulting directly with these companies on operational
and strategic issues (as a 'COO for hire') to help them grow
intelligently; 2) (and later) working with business partners
to acquire select companies that meet these and other criteria."
Reach him at jfmartin67@yahoo.com.
Nicole
Neuefeind continues to
take cool photos in Europe and was recently recognized for
her efforts: "I am very excited to share with you that
last week I received a bronze trophy in the prestigious annual
professional photography competition in Spain organized by
the Associacion de Fotógrafos Profesionales. There were more
than 700 works by professionals entered in the contest. You
can see my award-winning series, called 'Made in Barcelona'
on my Web site, nicneu.com. There you can also see some of my other work.
Commercially, my primary focus is on digital product photography
for catalogs and advertising. If you have friends or colleagues
who may be involved in the selection of photographers for
your company's marketing materials, I would really appreciate
it if you could pass along the URL for my online portfolio
to them, or send me their email addresses so that I can introduce
myself and give them a chance to see my portfolio. I am open
to projects both in the States and Europe."

Stacey
Castor is into something new and she's looking for some
help: "I joined a number of classmates who have taken
the entrepreneurial plunge and started my own online business
selling 'boutique' designer clothing (newborn to 6 years)
and artisan-made toys and accessories from Latin America,
artebebe.com. Great gifts.
Would like to extend to all Kellogg alums 10 percent off on
any order (type in KELLOGGBEBE during checkout). Looking for
someone who is a fluent Spanish-speaker with a background
in apparel design or production (high-end knitwear) to partner
with in creating a new line. Anyone? Have also started doing
'marketing strategy and innovation' consulting on an independent
contractor basis. Recently relocated from Los Angeles back
to the East Coast. Would love to hear from friends I've lost
touch with."
Suzy
Taherian dressed up at
Halloween with her family, which now includes husband Steve
Knuppel; daughter Darya Knuppel, 3; and new addition Damon
Knuppel, born Aug. 12.
Mark
Lamps sent in a note
about a couple of classmates he is in contact with: "Emre
Oksan is still running
the company importing coats from Turkey that he started while
at Kellogg; Sajal Kohli
is a partner at McKinsey in Chicago; Derrick Holley
has customer service call centers (outsourcing) in the Philippines.
Living and working in China keeps Mark, who is general manager
for Pentair Enclosures, every bit as busy as the experts warned
him it would!"
Brent
Harrison is keeping busy and has added another hat: "I
have been bitten by the entrepreneurial bug. I successfully
launched a high-tech, marketing consultancy last year SmokeJumper
Strategy provides strategy, marketing and product-innovation
services to Internet and software companies. I also am VP
marketing for SwapThing, swapthing.com, the best place to
trade, swap and exchange virtually anything. And I recently
set up a lakefront vacation rental property in the Seattle
area with my significant other. Check it out at perfectplaces.com/LakeMorton.htm. It is an ideal place for family vacations or that
Kellogg alumni get-together. Life in Silicon Valley keeps
me busy with children Hanna, 8, and Parker, 6."
Dodie
Crawford became a mommy again: "My big news is that
Catherine 'Katie' Amelia Crawford was born April 5, 2004,
two weeks after we completed a major remodel and moved back
to our San Francisco home. Big brother Sam loves his baby
sister and it gives us such joy to see them together. Now
that things have settled down a bit, I'm working a couple
of days a week as a marketing consultant for high-tech and
consumer companies in the Bay Area. I hope to make it to Reunion!"
I've
talked with Nick Palmer lately and it wasn't an overseas
call. Here's why: "In June I was asked if I was interested
in transferring to San Francisco for a year or so to help
lead a major financial services piece of work we had just
won. Liz and I thought about it (for about 2 seconds) and
four days later I was here, with the family joining me in
August. We are having a great time, sampling the delights
of the Bay Area and reconnecting with a number of old Kellogg
buddies. We are now pretty settled, with the kids in school
and a great little house in Belvedere/Tiburon with a fantastic
water view. My commute is a five-minute walk to the ferry
and another five minutes at the other end to my office or
client. Doesn't get much better than that for a consultant!"

A strong Kellogg School contingent turned out to see alums Kerry O'Rourke and George Bischof wed. From left, John Stickford '95, Phil Yau '95, Bill Kaufmann '96, Todd Krueger '95, Mark Medema '95. Leslie Kleinheksel Coote '95, Jeff Cooper '94, Ron Sann '94, Kerry O'Rourke '95, George Bischof '94, Bill Brown '94, Larry Russoff '94, Eve Lee '95, Sky Joyner '95, Dina Joyner, Ben Chou '95, Bob Lannert '67, Lisa Powers '94, Brian Saltzman '94, John Powers '94, Dave Sipes '94, Paul Machle '94, Rick Schiffmann '94, Evelyn Armstrong Marks '94 and Will Marks '94. Brent Harrison '94 and Keith Evans '94 were also there to celebrate, but missed the picture. |
Linda
Plate Guy sends her reunion
regrets: "I am currently working at Boston Medical Center
as director of nursing operations in downtown Boston and living
in Beacon Hill. I will be thinking of everyone that weekend."
Kurt
Ryden is hoping to see
everyone at Reunion, where he has some big news to announce.
Tom
McGuinness will be at Reunion — he only has to drive
to campus: "Hope you are well. Looking forward to seeing
you at our 10-year reunion! It's hard to believe it has really
been that long. I have been in Chicago pretty much entirely
since Kellogg. I also remained at McKinsey the whole time,
which is a bit ironic given that I won the award at the Keg
for 'the person most likely to change jobs the fastest after
graduation.' I am one of the leaders of McKinsey's healthcare
practice and also lead Kellogg recruiting for our Midwest
office (Chicago, Minneapolis, Cleveland, Detroit, Pittsburgh).
See you at Reunion."
Bill
Sheehan is doing well.
He has been with Longworth Venture Partners for almost four
years — a record for him. He writes that he is still
celebrating the Red Sox World Series victory and that it would
be great to see people if they pass through Boston."
Kelley
Rich has changed her
work day — it's gotten harder: "Big changes in
the Rich household. After nine years at SC Johnson I have
resigned from the company to take a career break to spend
more time with my kids. I am planning on being a full-time
mom for two to three years until my youngest is in first grade.
I'm loving it so far! Looking forward to seeing you at Reunion."
Jeff
Hyman says: "It's
great to be back in Chicago! Rachel '96 and I left San Francisco
for the Windy City last month. We miss the warm weather, but
it's good to be able to find real pizza again. I recently
joined Dyson as vice president of marketing. Never thought
I'd be selling vacuum cleaners, but it's an amazing product
(see dyson.com). We passed Hoover last month and are
now No. 1 in market share. It's a lot of fun — almost
as much fun as our 5-month-old son Max. He's just completed
his application to Kellogg and is enrolling for 'early-early-early
admission.' Stay in touch — new email is jeff.hyman@dyson.com."
Rebecca
Swarr still has that
amazing smile. She writes: "I got married last year to
Dan Posner and was honored to have many Kellogg buddies join
in the celebrations: Carla Cooper (Neumeyer) and
husband Paul, Dave Mathias
and wife Devara, Dan Kelly
and (now wife) Juliet, Tyler Stevens,
Amy Shriber (Lehr) and husband Todd, Seth Ruthen, Stacey Castor,
Geoff Stevens '96 and wife Stephanie, and Claudio
Ludovisi. Kathleen Cedergren,
Lisa LaVine (Forthofer)
and Kate Kustermann '94 were absolutely beautiful as bridesmaids.
That's old news, though, as I'm now a mom of 3-month-old Jacob.
What a trip — I can't be happier. Professionally, I'm
still a consultant with a practice in L.A. doing executive
coaching and OD work. There's a chance that I'll be moving
the practice to N.Y. or Chicago in the next six months. I'll
keep you posted ... hopefully in person at the reunion."
The
Brad Frank family
has gotten bigger: "Brad, Deb and brother Gavin welcomed
Sydney Aryn Frank into the world in May 2004. I hope all is
well with you and I look forward to seeing you and your family
at the reunion."
Kerry
O'Rourke recently celebrated a big date: "Kerry O'Rourke
and George Bischof '94 recently celebrated their one-year
wedding anniversary. Kerry and George were married in December
'03 and had a great Kellogg turnout to help celebrate in Princeton,
N.J., including classmates Eve Lee, Mark Medema,
Todd Krueger, Phil Yau, John Stickford, Sky and Dina Joyner, Brent Harrison,
Ben Chou and Leslie Kleinheksel Coote. Also
attending were Will and Evelyn Marks '94, Ron Sann '94, Bill
Brown '94, Jeff Cooper '94, Keith Evans '94, Paul Machle '94,
John and Lisa Powers '94, Larry Russoff '94, Brian Saltzman
'94, Rick Schiffmann '94, Dave Sipes '94 and Bill Kaufmann
'96. Kerry and George moved into a new home in Atherton, Calif.,
last year and would love to have visitors. Kerry is a senior
vice president at AOL in Mountain View and George is a general
partner at Focus Ventures in Palo Alto. They're both looking
forward to seeing everyone at the reunion in May!"
This
one kills me. It's a very unlikely recap from Dan Kelly: "There
was a recent PRR (Pasadena Reunion of Roomies). There was
100 percent attendance, as Dan Kelly and Nick Palmer paid
a visit to David Mathias. Times have not changed, as Nick was tossing back Diet Pepsi while David
changed dirty diapers and Dan led a chorus of 'Greased Lighting.'
OK, maybe things have changed. I've been in Los Angeles since
graduation and am still enjoying it, though not a week goes
by when I don't think of getting back to New Orleans. I left
Disney several years ago and am now the senior vice president
of business development for THQ Inc., a large video-game developer
and publisher, where I manage the green-light process for
new games and lead corporate-development efforts (e.g., new
business, M&A, etc). It's a great job, allowing me to
exercise both the right and left sides of my brain. In May
2004, I married Juliet Inge, sister of Susan Inge Callahan
'96. We live in Brentwood and hope to make it the reunion.
Please look us up next time you're in Los Angeles."
Another
intraclass family just got larger: Kathy (Schreiner) Brumme
and Peter Brumme
welcomed their son Ian Erich Brumme on Aug. 30. Kathy left
AT Kearney and took a job with Hewlett Packard in May and
is working with the BPO strategy group in Palo Alto. Peter
is still with Sapient and is splitting his time between Los
Angeles and the Bay Area. Life has been quite hectic since
the move, but the family reports they are slowly connecting
with the Kellogg Bay Area community and look forward to getting
back in touch with more West Coast classmates.
Simon
Rankin is married. (There, I said it with a straight face.)
Simon reports: "I got married on New Year's Eve. No Kellogg
attendance, despite invites to Turq and Mr. Bad Attitude."
From
another intraclass couple: "Todd and Christy Forest welcomed a new baby daughter on Feb. 5, Callie Morgan
Forest. Her big brother Tasman (3 1/2 years) is very excited
to share his motorcycles and monster trucks with her! Christy
is coming up on 10 years at the Corporate Executive Board
in D.C., and now leads the member services organization. Todd
recently passed his six-year mark at AOL and ran the NYC Marathon
this past fall before No. 2 child arrived."
Tracy
Heilman and her husband also grew their family by 50 percent:
"Tracy and I are the proud parents of a BIG baby boy,
Boden Heilman Macika. He weighed in on March 1 at 9 pounds,
3 ounces, and measured 20.5 inches (where is the height to
go with that weight?!). We are all doing great and can't wait
to introduce him to you."
For
all of those who added babies to your marketing mix, you might
want to get in touch with a classmate: "Amy Shriber
is still working in the world of children's entertainment,
but on two fronts. Amy and Todd Shriber had a baby boy, Theo,
in October. Her new status as 'mom' helps her as vice president
of global brands for HIT Entertainment in New York City, where
she develops global strategies for brands such as Bob the
Builder, Barney and The Wiggles. No, it's not like the movie
'Big,' but after all these years I get to bring home some
perks, instead of sending toys to all my Kellogg friends." |
