In a Kellogg
version of the NCAA's March Madness (Kellogg Kraziness?),
our third month of 2003 included appearances by Professor
Philip Kotler and Dean Jain, along with Northwestern-oriented
events, such as the annual Big 10 picnic and a talk given
by a Medill School of Journalism professor visiting from Chicago.
After this infusion
of Evanston intellect into the south Florida air, our immediate
plans call for a joint event with University of Chicago GSB
MBAs on April 11 — attending Michael Jordan's final
game in Miami. Ah, transplanted alums from the Chicago area
attending a Wizards-Heat game together — all that will
be missing is deep dish pizza and some really good pierogies.
In addition, the
March 5 "Philip Kotler in Miami" event drew more than 260
marketing-oriented Floridians. Special thanks to new alums
(in Florida at least) Arturo Henriquez-Autrey and Catherine
Meng for shouldering much of the work and worry for the event.
A big pat on the back to the local alums who helped spread
the word, contributed as sponsors or picked up equipment.
A collective hug goes out to Professor Phil Kotler himself,
who paid his own expenses to Miami with only one agenda: helping
us promote the Kellogg brand in South Florida. Mission accomplished,
Phil! Together we threw a very impressive event in spite of
having no formal infrastructure and only a budget for very
limited guerrilla marketing activities. All of the alums present
left the Renaissance Miami Biscayne Bay Hotel that Wednesday
night feeling proud to be Kellogg MBAs.
