Many Kellogg alumni
gathered on a warm fall evening to celebrate the arrival of
the Class of 2002 to New York. We held a happy hour at the
Park Bar at the ultra-hip Hudson Hotel on Manhattan's west
side. Arranged by social chair Tina Cheng '91, attendees sipped
martinis and cosmos, reunited with classmates and met new
friends. Special thanks to Harley Ungar '98, of Vindigo, for
donating five Vindigo software programs for PDAs for attendees.
Lucky winners were Catharina Kusuma '95, Aaliyah El-Amin '02,
Cindy Chao '00, Dan Williams '99 and Daryl Marshall '00. Thirteen
other attendees were the lucky winners of New York T-shirts.

Speaks at Fireside Chat
KACNY
members gathered on an October evening at a private New York
club to participate in a fireside chat with Steve Goldstein,
former chief communications officer of Dow Jones & Co.
and The Wall Street Journal. The discussion centered
around Steve's integral involvement in the highly publicized
Daniel Pearl case, as well as 9-11 and the relaunch of the
paper. Members of the Medill Club of Greater New York joined
Kellogg alumni for this exciting event. All in attendance
were thoroughly enthralled with Steve's stories and experiences.
Attendees included Joseph DeBono '97, Doug Bell '89, Don Allison
'73, Sandra Rupp '90, Kurt Ryden '95, John Forster '83, among
many others. Special thanks to Dan Williams '99 for planning

Broadway
Show: Dance of the Vampires
As ghouls and
goblins prepared to prowl the Halloween night, Kellogg alumni
gathered on a Friday evening in October to watch a preview
of the hit Broadway musical "Dance of the Vampires." The show
stars Michael Crawford (the original Phantom) in the newly
renovated Minskoff Theatre overlooking Times Square. The production's
music and lyrics are by Grammy award-winner Jim Steinman,
with the original German lyrics by Michael Kuntze, based on
a film by Roman Polanski. Our intrepid Kellogg alumni vampire
observers enjoyed comedic jokes, musical numbers set to familiar
music such as "Total Eclipse of the Heart," and slight touches
of high drama and sensual overtones reminiscent of Bram Stroker's
Dracula (1992). Elaborate sets impressed selected New
York area alumni in attendance such as Chris Jogis '94, Melinda
Graham '97, Greg Singer '97, Philippe Meyersohn '98, Kristopher
Zdyb '98, Gina Bokios '99, Eric Goldberg '00, Manthos Kallios
'00, Elaine Co '01 and Lisa Mazzocato '01. Special thanks
to KACNY treasurer Leonard Chan '00 for trying to culture
us, and to Manthos Kallios for being our photographer

Gwen Foster '93, Emily Malatesta '93, Doug Bell '89, Jody
Johannessen '00 and Cindy Chao '00. Special thanks Gwen Foster

Broadway Show:
The Karaoke Show
From the creators
of "The Donkey Show" and Kellogg alum Nelson Hsu '99 comes
"The Karaoke Show," an adaptation of Shakespeare's "Comedy
of Errors" set in a karaoke bar. This event was held at Club
El Flamingo, where alumni sang along with cast members Mustang
Sally, the Dragon Lady, Reverend Carl and the Dragon Boys
to songs like "Bohemian Rhapsody," "I Will Survive," "Love
Shack" and many more. The show was followed by open karaoke.
Special thanks to Leonard Chan '00 and Nelson Hsu '99 for
planning this great event.

the holiday season with a cup or two of good cheer at the
art gallery of Art Greco '93 in the art gallery district in
Manhattan. In addition to sampling a few different wines,
alums participated in a fun and educational Tasting Challenge
to hone their wine appreciation skills, thanks to Gloria Maroti
'97, the creator of winespectatorschool.com. Gloria
was on hand to answer wine questions, and Wine Spectator School
provided some fun door prizes, such as wine courses, tote
bags and magazines.
KACNY Winter
Planning Meeting
Our board and
planning group continues to strengthen, with alumni contributing
in many ways. Our January planning meeting (more than 46 strong

newcomers this time, including: Dana Hagendorf '01, Stephan
Hartman '99, Clara Kim '01 and Jodi Malamut '01. We appreciate
the contributions that people are making in planning events,
including Sandra Rupp '90, Javed Rahman '97, Doug Bell '89,

to join the fun. These happy hours are a great way to catch

business, including equities, fixed income and investment
banking. Topics of discussion included the challenges of marketing

MBA Update:
Derivatives With Professor Robert McDonald
More
than 50 Kellogg alumni gathered on a Saturday in early February
to learn the latest on derivatives in modern finance from
Kellogg Professor Robert McDonald. The half-day seminar was
held at J.P. Morgan Fleming Asset Management in midtown. Attendees
enjoyed coffee and breakfast with Professor McDonald, a lively
three hour lecture/discussion on derivatives, followed by
a buffet lunch and panel featuring Kellogg alumni who are
senior-level Wall Street executives, including Fred Krom '79
of Morgan Stanley and Avi Nash '81 of Goldman Sachs. Professor
Robert McDonald's classroom session on the role of derivatives
in modern finance, a topic at the core of his new book, Derivatives
Markets, was well received by all in attendance. The panel
discussion prompted lively discussion about the challenges
and changes concerning options and compensation — issues
facing both individuals and corporations. Special thanks to
J.P. Morgan Fleming Asset Management, Addison Wesley Publishing
and the Kellogg Office of Alumni Relations for their help
in putting together this seminar.
