TMP 2002

Since graduation, the members of TMP 2002 have been exceptionally busy making their mark in their professional and personal lives. There have been many births, marriages, promotions and career changes since we were last together. Many members of the class have been so busy they have not even had time to:

1. Register for a Kellogg alumni email address online.

2. Sign up for the TMP 2002 listserv.

3. Contact me via email at jmclaughlin2002@kellogg.northwestern.edu with their latest and greatest so I can update their classmates.

A few, however, have contacted me, so I thought I would take this opportunity to share with you what I've heard:

Dave Ramaswamy is still at Tribune Media Services. Post-Kellogg, he's been dabbling in improv (has done two shows at Comedy Sportz), classical guitar, salsa dancing ó definitely putting all those case analysis skills to work. Dave also got a chance to hike the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu and relax in the tropical paradise of Sri Lanka.

Tarcisco Ribeiro got married in December to Katya after five years together. The wedding was in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where they enjoyed a brief respite from Chicago's weather. They are still living in the Chicago area, where Tarcisco continues to work for Tellabs as a senior marketing manager.

Mayura Ladwa and Jay Garg got married after graduation and moved to San Francisco. Jay, who is an internal medicine physician, is completing a clinical year at UCSF hospital as part of his nephrology specialty. Mayura has taken up a business development role at a small electronic design automation firm called Applied Wave Research, primarily managing the Silicon Valley accounts. Mayura will be coming back to Kellogg for the class of 2002 reunion and hopes to see and catch up with her classmates.

Michael E. McLean continues to enjoy his role at McGraw-Hill Higher Education as executive editor for testing and assessment.

Great news from Paula Smorynski. She and her husband Ken had their first baby, Paige Rosemarie, on Feb. 10.

Zach Markiewicz and his wife Mary moved to St. Louis. Zach accepted a position as a marketing manager for Rawlings Sporting Goods and Mary is in a post-doctoral fellowship in immunology at Washington University. Their first child, Daniel Jacob, was born one month after their arrival, July 31.

Phil Lamonaca is working at the Solo Cup company in Highland Park as a senior business analyst. He is responsible for providing financial analysis for new product developments, new/current customer bids and capital equipment requests. Phil's role includes overseeing the pricing department and supervising two financial analysts, one of whom is a 2002 Kellogg MMM. In his spare time, Phil has been busy spending time with his wife and daughter, who just turned 14 months. He also volunteers with the local park district, where he works with mentally disabled and physically handicapped kids.

Marc Dietrich is enjoying his new job with First Analysis Corp. doing institutional equity sales. He and his wife Meg bought a new place and moved to 1873 N. Dayton St., Apt. 1, Chicago, where he encourages 2002 TMP classmates to drop by for a beer anytime day or night!

Joe Montalbano took a new position with his employer, UOP, consulting on refinery supply chains. With his newfound free time since completing Kellogg, Joe is also teaching a GMAT prep course at Kaplan. Finally, Joe says he's managing to find time for working on projects around the house and visiting old friends that he didn't have the time to see while in TMP.

Wolfgang Hirshburger is still working as a director of engineering for Bosch in Chicago. He has accepted a transfer back to Germany, where he will continue to work in engineering, but his scope and responsibilities will expand. Wolfgang and his wife Jeanine are both excited and nervous about their return home after five years, especially since both of their sons, Maximilian and Johannes, have only lived in the United States.

Chris Cornett is now an associate in the leasing and capital group for Bank of America, Chicago. His wife Karen and children, Chase and Chloe, are very happy that he has completed his six months of training in San Francisco and can be back at home full time.

Jim Newcomb joined The Boeing Co.'s community and education relations efforts, doing exciting work in the area of branding and corporate citizenship.

Greg Mooney and his wife Katie celebrated his Kellogg completion with a month-long trip to the east coast of Africa. There they had the opportunity to visit some old friends, see several countries and be mesmerized by the immense beauty of the continent. Greg has recently taken a new job as the executive director of the Comer Science and Education Foundation.

Steve Pinedo accepted an alliance manager position at Siebel Systems in San Mateo, Calif. He manages the portion of the firm's relationship with IBM around the Universal Application Network.

Bharat Kakar is the vice president of business development with Configure Inc., a start-up service provider in the field of telecommunications consultancy catering to B2B customers. Currently, he is heading the Chicago-based office responsible for Midwest and East Coast operations.

Congratulations are in order for Jill Kersky, who married Andrew Marcus in July. Jill continues to work for Morningstar as a stock analyst following the biotechnology sector, and is now managing the team of healthcare analysts.

Dave Hedlund continues to work as a senior international distribution specialist at Akzo Nobel Chemicals.

Bill Glenn and wife Kristen have relocated to Seattle, Wash. Bill accepted a marketing manager position with Onyx Software following graduation.

Tom Dahlin entered a general management training program with Caterpillar and moved to Raleigh, North Carolina, for his first rotation. Though Tom and his family ó wife Jorie and daughter Claire ó miss Chicago, they say they do not miss the winter weather.

Keith O'Brien left Chicago to join Corporate Executive Board in April 2002. Three months later, on July 27, he married Tara Ryan in Boston. Bryn Packard was one of the groomsmen, and Heather Daas read the intentions at the nuptial Mass. Other TMP'ers who joined in the festivities included Alan and Lisa Reed and Rachel Gibbons. Highlights of the ceremony included being "treated" to a Bryn Packard original rap at the reception. The O'Briens have made their home together in Arlington, Va.

Arek Jaszcz and wife Alina celebrated the birth of their second child, Konrad, on Sept. 14. Less than a month later, on Oct. 9, Arek left for Warsaw, Poland, where he has joined the McKinsey office there.

Bryn Packard tried his hand at theater in November when he starred as Jonathan Brewster in "Arsenic and Old Lace" at the Mayfair field house of the Chicago Park District. Bryn showed his natural talent for the macabre in this outrageous role!

Cindy Axne left her job at the Chicago Tribune and moved her family to Elm Grove, Wis. She is pursuing two different career fronts: 1. as director of business development for Creative Agents, a full-service design and outsourcing business which handles all aspects of the Web design process, from inception, to programming and design, to project management, and 2. as a consultant on organizational design and development with a focus on changes in corporate strategy, performance management, leadership development, succession planning and facilitation of activities such as teambuilding, goal setting, conflict resolution and strategic planning. Despite being very busy, Cindy says life is good and she hopes all her classmates are doing well.

As for me, I continue to serve as a member of the leadership team for 21st Century Urban Schools and the Inner-City Teaching Corps. We are attempting to empower children from underserved urban communities through education.

I look forward to hearing from lots more of you very soon. Please do not hesitate to call (773.265.7255) or email me if ever there is anything I can do to be of service to you, or if you just want to catch up.

Cheers,

Tiny McLaughlin
