EMP-48

I reached out to all of you and got some responses that are posted below. It was great to hear from you. Want to hear from everyone else, as there has been a lot of EMP-48 spirit (and craziness) going around this country, and dare I say, the world, and would like to hear all about it. I must say, I went out on the edge to put together a more comprehensive report (I even sang "You are so beautiful" to my Thailand roommate Callahan, but to no avail). So, needless to say, I shall now offer to come to your house to interview you for Class Notes. So, every time that door rings, it could be your Kellogg Palsy Walsy. Where I did not hear from you, I did take the liberty of guessing what is up in your neck of the nape ... your neck of the woods.

By the way, New York is wide open for y'all (reference to Dr. Makk), and it looks like we have some interest in a class reunion in June (see your email for more information.)

Steve Swinson reached out and, although it is unclear what endeavor he is leading, it's safe to assume he is doing well and enjoying the good life. I think he would have benefitted from a Kellogg course on "Retiring Early and REALLY enjoying it."

Dr. Ken Bastin spent much of the past six months negotiating a merger between his group, Radiation Oncology Associates, and a large medical oncology group, forming Oncology Associates S.C. on Jan 1. OA now represents one of the largest private pure oncology groups in the United States. Ken assures us that merger negotiations were not as fun as the sharks problem in our negotiations course during live-in week because we used REAL money. Ken will be at our Reunion.

Dana Filip EMP-48 reports that married life is wonderful. Back row, from left, Sam and Jo Yun, Tom and Jana Cleves, Barb and John Greene, Dawn Albury and Steve and Jenny Swinson. Front row, from left, Maryellen Gleason, Dana and Brad Crandall, Michelle Lavallee and Patty Hanz.

Dana Filip reports that married life is wonderful (and we should all take some responsibility for that for the wedding ceremony we hosted, thank you very much). She is closing on a mountain condo and and would love visitors. Dana wishes everyone well and even wrote a couple of "XXX's" and "OOO's" for you. I don't think she was diagramming any offense plays for the superbowl.

Julio is going to spend a lot of time in India and in China during 2003. He has opened a product design center in India and plans to open another one in China. He even got a 10-year visa to India. Nine new KitchenAid products developed by his team were introduced January at the International Housewares Show in Chicago He reports it was a great success. He introduced an ice-cream maker ($1,000) just like the one we had at the Allen Center. Thanks to so many of our classmates for believing that it would be a good product. Now you all, please buy one ice-cream maker each (sorry guys, he won't be able to share any royalties with you). His family is doing fine. The kids are growing fast and are a lot of fun. He even sent a picture of Sofia and Samuel fishing last time they were in Brazil. Samuel is having a good time eating the fish bait.

Shawn Carsten recently moved to England and things have been chaotic (as you would imagine) with the move. He promises to keep in contact with us all. Hope all is well Shawn!

Joining Shawn in England is Eddie Norris. He wanted to let the class know that he took an international assignment at Shell and is in the process of moving the family to London. Eddie (in typical Eddie fashion) is hoping we go over the pond as he'd love to tap into a pint with fellow classmates. I have included his new business info below. Please note the change in email address, as his old one will not work much longer. Darlene and Ed plan to move into their house in mid-February ó a 15-minute train ride out of central London. For the avid Stones fans, hes's three blocks from Mick Jaggar and Jerri Hall's house and a couple of blocks from Pete Townsend's house (although he recently got into a little "Internet viewing" trouble with the law, Eddie had nothing to do with it). Eddie can be reached at 44.20.7934.3270 or at E.Norris@Shell.com.

The Phoenix Symphony named Maryellen H. Gleason, a leader with an impressive track record of both public and private sector achievement, as the organization's new president and CEO. Gleason assumed her new role with the Symphony on Dec. 9.

Greg Genrich took a winter vacation in the Big Apple. Rumor is he and Steph could not be happier, especially with neighbors Doug Stang and Wendy helping them tear up the Indy nightlife.

My pal Herm Stonitsch is doing very well in Indy.

Kevin Smith prepared a whole BC-Notre Dame football outing with his pal Chris Ricciuti, who is such a wimp, he could not get out of a business meeting with his new boss. While Mr. Ricciuti was disappointed, he did take some solace in the fact that Notre Dame was rated No. 3 in the country and was undefeated, and that if he missed (and he hated to), at least he wouldn't miss anything to go down in the record books. Boston College went on to beat ND in the most surprising upset in college football this year. (Well, Eddie, maybe LSU over Kentucky was pretty good, too). Since then, Mr. Ricciuti has been in seclusion, telling everyone he was there anyway.

Wayne Lallman is having a blast with itsdeductible, his new software company. Angela and the boys are great. Olivia is doing incredibly well and is gorgeous, clearly revoking Darwin's genetic ideas that traits are shared from both parents to offspring. Wayne comes in and out of New York City and what happens then is not for personal consumption and we would like it if you stayed out of our personal affairs, thank you very much.

Dr. Makk is doing well with his practice, and looking to work with venture capital firms and is, overall, exceptionally happy. Think we all miss his insight and ability to make us laugh.

Jim Callahan is the most successful attorney in the United States of America. I don't know this for sure, but he has been harder to get ahold of than President Bush. Let's assume it's true. We always knew he was very talented.

Alan MacLeod is living in California.

Tom Cleves has been doing well, despite some IP issues around sales (join the club IP). But we all know through Tom's leadership his division will be doing great in due time ó if only Tom would stop spending time wondering what celebrities his executive team resembles.

Brain Burdorf and Kim are whooping it up in Texas.

Arun Taploo, Andy Gehl, Barb Green, Cashie, Daniel Tsai, Darko, Dave M., Dawn, Derrick Evans, Eric Smith, Gaye Hazard, Gerrick Doss, James Ordo, JL, Joan McGrath, Judy Shaw, Dr. Schaeffer, Joe Ambrose, Kelly, Kai, Karen Guy, Kat, Lisa Harris, Michael Biehl, Hiltie, Frittsie, Michelle, Patty Hanz, Mike Miller, Sandefer, Ramin (Ramone!), Ray, Ray, Rich Calhoun, Rich Feehan, Alan, Tony, Mr. McCurdy, Rick Montoya, Sam and Jo, Robin, Walt, Steve D., Tom Neyens, Ciurlik, Telisa, Todd, Hayesie, Trudy, Dr. Don, Spadafore, Michelle L., Thornton and Tice and others:

1. Are doing great 2. Send their regards 3. Miss you all 4. Think Macleod is living in California 5. Have their alarms set to Mavis' voice to get up in the morning 6. Believe that astroturf and the designated hitter should be eliminated 7. Have their Kellogg diplomas proudly displayed 8. All read that Kellogg was rated No. 1 9. Want to hear from you AND 10. Owe me a voicemail and a phone call because they are sorely missed.

Chris Ricciuti has been busy at IBM on the Morgan Stanley account. In his new role, he has been leading the consulting business at Morgan and is generally enjoying life in the Hoboken (home of baseball and Frank Sinatra) loft he shares with wife Annette. He invites you all up to "MidPoint," the Cape Cod house with the name of a detox center, this summer. He originally had plans to continue his education at the University of Pennsylvania but, realizing it was not Kellogg, walked out at orientation when it was his turn to introduce himself. Subsequently, he went to Kevin Smith's house and played golf. That was a while ago. Chris would like to spend more time with his Kellogg pals and hopes you all are doing even better than he knows you are.

Chris is at 862.849.3047 and expects your call. Right now. Go ahead.
