EMP-33

Hello EMP-33! Dave Donnatelli writes that he lives in Dover, Mass., with wife Michelle and children Abigail, 2 1/2, and Christopher, 1. David is executive vice president of storage platform operations at EMC. Reporting to the CEO, Dave manages this division, which designs, manufactures and markets products that account for more than 70 percent of EMC's revenue. Dave was recently ranked No. 1 on Byte and Switch magazine's list of the "Top Ten Storage Stars."

Chuck Brynelsen has returned from Japan to become vice president/general manager of the Medtronic perfusion business. Chuck says the title isn't as good as in Japan, and he has no driver, but he likes the experience. He also says that Steve Basta has moved and is now working in the Milwaukee area.

Speaking of Milwaukee, yours truly, Barry McCarthy, has relocated from the Bay Area to Milwaukee. My wife Jean Ann had the opportunity to become CFO of GE Medical Systems-Americas business, based in Milwaukee. We are pleased to be back home, close to all the grandparents, aunts, uncle and dozens of cousins. We welcomed our third child, Katherine Ann, on Jan. 30. I am still vice president/general manager of the VeriSign payment business, and am commuting (at least for now) to San Jose.

Karl Saunders has been very busy with corporate governance, audit, Sarbanes-Oxley etc., as well as with his many boards and business interests.

Pete Amenda reported he closed his retail store at the end of the year, which he he says was sad, but the right thing to do. Pete did some contract consulting in Snowmass, Colo., with a friend. Now he's working in the IS group for a regional retailer named Christmas Tree Shops, working on various strategic projects in an internal consultant sort of function. He is getting used to being paid after 2 1/2 years of start-up battles. Pete said he saw Sean Kerins on one trip through the Denver airport and shared a beverage and conversation while waiting for the next flight.

Tim Tonnella reports all is well in Southern California.

Margaret Crawford is now senior vice president of human resources at Fortis Healthcare in Milwaukee. She has bought a new place downtown and is enjoying her short commute.

Jill Matzke wrote to say she is still working to sell supercomputers in Silicon Valley. Rick Barger sold his house and bought a new one in town. Bill Wick is traveling often to Europe with his venture capital firm that he reports is surviving the tech downturn just fine.
