2001

What a winter it's been! After a grand total of 4 inches of snow last year, we're at over 45 inches this year in Princeton Ö unbelievable! Hopefully by the time you read this in a month or two, the 27 inches of snow that fell in Princeton this weekend will have melted! Yes, Nate and I had quite an adventure shoveling my car out from snowdrifts that were as high as the windows. While this might not be that impressive to our friends in Minneapolis, I must say that I'm very envious of those of you in Southern California! In fact, I'm counting the days until we leave for Hawaii for our honeymoon (56 days as of when I wrote this). I'm definitely ready for some sunshine and warm weather!

In the meantime, as you wait for the spring thaw, keep the news coming! Whether you're going on exciting skiing vacations, escaping to places warm and sunny or want to let everyone know about a new spouse or child, it's great to hear from all of you! Here's the latest.

Allister Lundberg ’01 and Shie Saito Lundberg ’01 were married Sept. 19 at Calvary By The Sea Lutheran Church in Honolulu. Visit their wedding Web site here.

Wedding Announcements

Bendee Anzures was busy attending weddings last October! She had the following to say about the weddings of Al Liu to Sarah Klish and Ruth Berkowitz to Doron Shiloach:

Al Liu ’01 celebrates his marriage to Sarah Klish in October in Chicago, with help from many Kellogg friends.

Al Liu married Sarah Klish last October at our very own Alice Millars Chapel on the Northwestern campus. The reception kicked off at Rose Angeles, the Lincoln Park restaurant where the couple had their first date. Kellogg friends were greeted with a few pleasant surprises — different photos of all the guests scattered all around the foyer and CD compilation favors. After the reception, the party continued at the couple's apartment where, many vodka shots later, Al performed a lil' dance for his loving fans to Salt-N-Peppa's "Push It" and ended the night with a romantic serenade to Sarah of "Don't Let It End" by Styx.

Ruth Berkowitz ’01 married college sweetheart Doron Shiloach last October in Washington D.C. Several Class of 2001 alumni helped them celebrate.

Ruth Berkowitz married college sweetheart Doron Shiloach last October in Washington, D.C. In true Movers & Shakers style, Ruth and Doron kicked off their first dance with a swing/choreographed dance to "Manhattan." The dancing continued until the wee hours of the night with a Bendee-led conga line, Israeli dance lessons, and of course, some swing/salsa/electric slide action. With Southard Jones as the sole male at the Kellogg table, he was kept busy as a dance partner (which Katy was fine with). The couple recently threw a 'Use Our New Wedding Stuff' party at their new co-op in the Mid/Upper East Side in NYC."

Brad Turner married Amanda Albright in a beautiful ceremony in Atlanta last October. After the ceremony, many Kellogg friends joined them to celebrate at their reception.

Elizabeth Vida was married to Ryan Opria in Chicago on Oct. 5. There were several Kellogg alumni in attendance, including Margaret Vida TMP '02, Lisa Snyder TMP '01, Amy Widicus TMP '01, Jennifer '00 and Jon Stewart '98. Elizabeth and Ryan honeymooned in Maui and are now living in a new home in Chicago.

Birth Announcements

Roberto Chute and his wife Ana had a baby boy earlier this year. The Chute family continues to live in Evanston and Roberto writes, "Fortunately, we are still connected with the Kellogg world: Lahima parties, World Cup soccer etc."

Alene and Matt Frankel ’01 hold their new daughter, Phoebe Jade Frankel, who was born Feb. 4.

Matt Frankel and his wife Alene are delighted to announce the arrival of Phoebe Jade Frankel. Born Feb. 4, weighing in at 3.45 kilograms, measuring 49.5 centimeters and speaking in full sentences.

Doug Olds and wife Suzanne, are excited about the new addition to their family. Keaton Alexander Olds was born Feb. 1 (actually hit the exact due date!) and was a healthy 8 lbs., 5 oz. and 20 inches at birth. Keaton, mom (Suzanne) and dad are all doing well. Doug is still at Jordan, Knauff & Company, a boutique investment bank in Chicago.

Several Class of 2001 friends gathered for the baptism of Jasmine Lee-Tin, 6-month-old daughter of Jane and John Lee-Tin on Feb. 9 at St. Paul's Church, NYC. Matt Bushel writes, "I tiptoed in a Kelloggian five minutes late, half hoping the priest would be as timely as a team meeting in Jacobs 217. Hopes were dashed as I found myself in the middle of the priest's speech about hopes and dreams for the future of baby Jasmine. Today was Jasmine's day, cute as a button, with more hair than her daddy (sorry John) and so well behaved throughout the entire ceremony (no doubt getting her patience from her mom. Sorry again, John.) A very nice reception at a nearby Italian restaurant on the West Side (that would rival any consulting company recruiting dinner) followed, where out whipped the ceremonial Kellogg battalion of cameras in the tradition of commemorating every event of significance. For me, it was an event filled with a little bit of everything: new experiences, sense of family and a recollection of all that is good about Kellogg."

Personal Updates

Bibi Choa recently moved to Singapore and is working at Levi Strauss as director, brand strategic planning for the Asia Pacific division. Those of us in NY already miss her and wish her luck in her new role!

Mandy Levenberg and Clay McDaniel remain in Seattle, still working at Amazon and Microsoft, respectively. Mandy was on the team that launched the apparel store at Amazon this year (along with Erin Kenny '00 and Jay Marine '02). Clay recently headed to Asia on a December business trip, checking out some of Tokyo's funkier neighborhoods in the process (with Mary Anne Masterson, who also works on his team at Microsoft!). In January, Mandy headed to D.C. where she hung out with Monisha Kaplan, Chris Lozier and Tammy and Todd Wincup! On the same weekend, Clay skied in Whistler with Ben Straley, Frank Ferenbach, Van Crocker, Charles Stephens and Erich Vaden '00 on a laid-back "Ben Straley bachelor weekend" (the weekend was in preparation for Ben's February wedding in San Francisco). A late autumn in the Northwest means that skiing in the Cascades is just starting to get good, so Mandy and Clay extend an open invitation to their classmates to join them on the slopes before the snow melts!

Sadesha Tendulkar and Kapil Singh TMP 2001 married in La Canada, Calif., on Oct. 12.

Isi Okogun is still with Goldman Sachs Chicago in the private wealth management group. He writes, "It's a lot of fun and Goldman is a fantastic company. I recently hung out with Brian Black, Kelly Cornelis, James Lynch and Paige Herren. Other 2001'ers I see often include Grant Jackson, Deborah Spence, Nnekka Rimmer, Suzanne Ogunsanya and Erica Barnett-Oliver. I got a lovely Christmas card and recently had a marathon conversation with Lucy Carruthers. I am enjoying Chicago and I am proud to say that I completed the 2002 Chicago marathon this past October. Stay in touch and please send me some rich clients!"

Teaque Lenahan recently moved to Inforte Corp., joining Kellogg classmates Dan McCarthy and Jason Schleuter, focusing on the integration of strategy/process/change at the strategy and technology consultancy. Teaque and his fiancee, Amy Stroud, attended Chris Freeburg's now-annual (right, Chris?) holiday bash in December. Kelly Cornelis, Dave Mirelez, Dan McCarthy, Lisa Belcher, Rosalind Van Tuyl '00, Steve Sherman, Gretchen Hall and Peter Salomon '00, Steve Altshul, Peter McWeeny, Paige Herren, Frank Fehrenbach and Jennifer Zierden joinedin the festivities as well.

After hearing unconfirmed rumors that Juan Jose Orellana had started his own alpaca farm in Latin America, Big Dogs Bridget McVerry and Julie Oh made a journey to El Salvador over New Year's searching for their fellow classmate. Although they never did confirm the existence of such a farm, Bridget and Julie spent 10 days soaking up the country's culture with Juan Jose as their main guide. The trip was filled with outings to the country's main cities, pre-colonial archeological sites, volcanoes and deserted beaches. Before departing, Julie Oh gave the locals something to remember her by bringing down the house at a karaoke bar with her rendition of Gloria Gaynor's "I Will Survive."

Also responding to rumors that Juan Jose was starring in Spanish television soap operas (Novelas), Marisa O'Connor ambushed JJ in a recent visit to Hollywood in January. JJ and Marisa were joined by Brad and Robyn Paris, Steve Collens and Joshua Mallamud for drinks at a swank "industry" bar. They are all still uncertain as to what it is JJ really does.
