Doug
Stephenson writes from Chicago with the following update:
"I would at least like my classmates to know that I am still
in CHICAGO ó that I keep in touch with Ellen Baras
and Nancy Comstock (Nancy just had a house warming
where I chatted with and caught up with Paul Nowicki
and Suzanne Blood). I attended an annual chili party
at Ingrid Stafford's (and husband Bill's) on Nov. 23.
I played host to Jim Chess's son Peter (who is a senior at
Georgetown) and four of his friends last weekend. I see Debbie
Loeb '79 regularly. Last winter I traveled to Boston where
I saw Charlie Kellner (Northborough) and saw Don
Oppenheimer's high school-age son play basketball. I also
got together with Trisha Lanktree and Linda Cline.
Trisha was in town showing her second son Northwestern, as
he is applying to college soon.
"I have
a company called 'All Creation' (312.850.CRE8), inspired by
the fact that I am headquartered in a loft in a church in
Chicago built in 1886. As All Creation, I have done new product
ideation work for companies like Keebler, Kraft, Hallmark
and American Licorice. I do creative problem solving/team
building for new products, brands and organizational issues.
I still do marketing consulting and wordsmithing, including
a fair share of Web stuff. I just completed a rebranding project
for a large IT company.
"When
I am not doing the above, I am still involved with special
events and meetings around the world, the bulk of this work
through a company called MC2. That work has taken me to Europe
frequently and to South America. In my spare time, I am still
writing ó plays, screenplays, short stories. This past year,
I was admitted to the University of Edinburgh in Scotland
in creative writing, but elected not to attend. Instead, I
am completing a master's degree in creativity through Buffalo
State University. It's where Alex Osborne (the 'O' in BBDO)
invented and coined the term 'brainstorming.' I am having
a blast."
Martha
Edwards writes in to affirm that there is life after a
professional career. Martha writes, "I have been a community
volunteer on the mid-peninsula (California Bay Area) since
moving here in 1989. Recently, I was recognized by San
Jose Magazine as one of 20 'Women Making a Mark.'
The recognition was specifically for my volunteerism, and
involved a cover article of the September 2002 issue, plus
a lunch hosted by the magazine for all the women recognized."
Martha says she is serving on three community boards. She
is board development vice president for Peninsula Center for
the Blind and Visually Impaired (PCBVI), finance vice president
for Vintage Affaire, a fund-raiser that benefits PCBVI, and
is on the endowment fund board of the Junior League of Palo
Alto-Mid Peninsula. She was also recognized by the Junior
League this year with the presentation of the "President's
Cup" for her long-term contributions to the organization.
Peter
Tenney checked in to give his classmates the following
update: "Since July 1, I have been working with Coty Brazil,
Brazilian subsidiary of Coty Inc, as in cosmetics and Adidas
deodorant, as its finance director or CFO, if you will. It's
a small organization and hence one is quite visible. I am
already deeply involved in the company and working hard to
overcome cash shortages (we had credit lines cut), improve
inventory levels and internal controls." |
