EMP-23

EMP-23 Reunion Cruise: From left: Mike and Betty Fitzgerald, Colleen and Ken Stribling, and Debbie and Doug Berg.

Tom Roehlk reports from Florida that he’s run six marathons, maybe seven now, and is ready for more. Even with all that running Tom still finds time for his legal duties at Tupperware.

Jason Conviser is the exuberant leader of the ‘clinical services’ program for Bally Total Fitness at the Chicago headquarters. His group specializes in developing medical/health club relationships. Jason published two books in 2002 already; an extensive workout planner/training log and a fitness professional’s handbook called “Exercise Testing and Program Design.”

Also training for a special athletic event is Liz Wald, who shares this update with us: “I have returned from my world travels and am enjoying being back in New York. Since I can’t quite bring myself to get a job yet, I’m spending my time training to ride a bicycle across the United States. Yes, all the way across, and last time I checked there were no tunnels cutting through the Grand Tetons or the Rockies!

At least the wind will be at my back as we will start in Oregon and finish in Massachusetts.

The whole thing will take place this May/June, 30 days and 3,350 miles. I am exhausted just thinking about it!

“My participation is part of a fundraiser called Run America, and we hope to generate at least $250,000 for research on a particular form of muscular dystrophy known as myotonic dystrophy — an inherited disease that results in crippling muscle weakness and deterioration among other symptoms.

It is to my brother Barry that this event is dedicated. My goal is to raise at least $10,000 and I am asking for a tax-deductible contribution of $100 to the Run America Foundation. For more information, please visit www.runamerica.org.”

Phyllis Morgan is now working in the fund raising arena for the American Cancer Society. Some of you may be familiar with their Relay for Life event. Kitty Croke continues to be active up on the North Shore and is a leader of outsourcing services for AT&T. 27 years and counting.

Our EMP-23 reunion cruise was great fun. Attendees included Mike Fitzgerald, Ken Stribling, and Doug Berg. Ports of call included Key West, Cancun, and all the Caribbean breezes in between. We observed that 10 years goes quickly, everyone is very busy, Kellogg was a great time, and having a toast for each of our classmates is an extraordinary challenge, but we came through in fine EMP-23 fashion.
