1997

Kymm Bartlett and Scott Pollack ’96 finally tied the knot in Vermont in June 23, 2001. In attendance were Sean Foley (groomsman), Christy Hartung Moorhead (bridesmaid), Kyle Appell, Bill Norris ’96 (groomsman) and his wife Sancha Huang Norris ’92, Colin Mackay ’96 (groomsman) and his wife Deb, Kevin O’Keefe ’96, Dave Popler and his girlfriend Beth, Glen Dils (reader), and Stephanie Ruperto ’96. They traveled to Italy for their honeymoon and are now back in Minneapolis where Kymm continues to enjoy working for General Mills and Scott took a new job as a consultant with A.T.Kearney.

P.J. Platt is now senior manager, product marketing at Nextance-an enterprise software firm in the contract management space. The position is exciting, the people are fun and experienced, and the market space is getting great reception. Companies are signing up for Nextance even in this economy. Large companies have a real “pain” in managing contracts and corresponding commitments responsively to increase earned revenues, reduce contractual risk, and reduce expenses. The value for the price is outstanding. OK, so that’s the teaser sales pitch. Obviously, P.J. is excited about the firm’s product, their momentum, and their growing customer list. The position is currently in Fremont, Calif., (East Bay) and moving to the peninsula in Q1 or so. Thus, P.J. will be moving from the Marina to get a bit closer.

Sept. 2 was a big day for Barb Dorf. She married Michael Levin, a wonderful guy she met at a random party. Barb left Jack Morton Worldwide in the big city of Chicago and is still trying to figure out her next professional move. In the meantime, she is loving married life and getting used to her new home in the suburbs.

Kevin Pate and his wife, Shelley, welcomed a new addition to the family on Sept. 24. Kellen Thomas Pate made his entrance weighing 8 lbs., 11 oz. and 20.5 inches. Kevin, Shelley and Kellen are doing great!

David Fishman and his wife Susan were married last August in New York and currently reside in San Francisco. The wedding was fabulous with a number of Kellogg people in attendance. Dave continues to work with Goldman Sachs and is currently a vice president in the mergers and acquisitions group focused on the high technology sector.

Annette Herz has returned to Boston from her international rotation to Germany. She is developing next generation products for Braun Oral-B, a division of the Gillette Company. Annette crosses paths with Emmanuel Mercier, who is now leaving Boston and returning to Europe (London) with his wife, Muriel. Luckily, Vimla Gupta is staying to keep Annette company at Gillette. If you would like to contact Annette, your best bet is via e-mail at: Annette_Herz@Gillette.com.

Stan Baginskis has not included any updates, since nothing as significant as births or weddings has happened in the last five years. But as a fellow MMMer pointed out — just the fact that things have been stable for the last five years is significant. There aren’t many of us that still live in the same town and still hold the same job! Stan is in Silicon Valley and is enjoying his career with PRTM, consulting with a variety of high-tech firms on their crazy rides over the last few years. He’s staying in touch with a bunch of Kellogg folks on the West Coast. On weekends he is often seen with other 1997 Kelloggians, tearing through California’s woods and mountains on his mountain bike.

Ingrid (Rentz) Kipper and her husband Bodo became proud parents of a baby girl on Jan. 26. Lara Anouk Kipper entered the world at 6 lbs., 10 oz. and 19.5 inches. Lara, mom and dad are doing very well and are enjoying new family life.

John Tompkins and his wife, Amy Itoku, gave birth to their second son, Trevor Rei on Jan. 28. Everyone is happy and healthy. John is still with BCG in Chicago.

Cynthia Safford and Scott Mulcahy ’96 had their first child, a baby boy named Liam Scott, on Sept. 21. All are happy and healthy. Cynthia has recently returned to work at Unilever and Scott is still at Morgan Stanley.

Winnie Wong and her husband Brad moved from New York to Toronto recently. After having lived just a couple of blocks south of the World Trade Center in New York, they thought it would be a great idea to move back closer to family in Toronto. They are excited to be back and adjusting to the cold winters again! Winnie is now working for In-Sync Consumer Insight Corp., a marketing strategy and research firm. She will be focusing on global business development and strategy for pharmaceutical clients, and can be reached at wwong@in-syncresearch.com.

Lance Donenberg is still happily married and living in the suburbs of Chicago complete with minivan. He and his wife, Angie, have two gorgeous daughters — Lea Rachel (2.5 years-old) and Gabrielle Shayna (14 weeks). He is working for a NYC/Chicago hedgefund doing recruiting and outside allocations, and loving it.

Keith Rakow joined EarthLink in October as product manager of Web hosting in Pasadena, Calif. Since EarthLink headquarters are in Atlanta, he has been spending quality time with Stephen Julien and Mirabel Gombe, and he also ran into Shawn Cooper in a restaurant parking lot. Keith also enjoys seeing Ronna Katz and her beautiful impressionistic photography on display at the annual Beverly Hills Outdoor Art Show.

Ray Woods has joined Deloitte & Touche LLP. He will work in the Reorganization Services Group, which focuses on distressed company-related matters. Ray will continue to be based out of New York. Ray and wife Renee are doing well.

Joe Urban left the high tech world last October and started a manufacturing company called Corvalence. He’s now producing a line of office supply products that he invented. Check them out at www.corvalence.com.

Greg Stone is pleased to announce his recent resignation from an unsuccessful start-up. In his new role, Mr. Stone will be responsible for playing hockey at lunchtime while dreaming up an entrepreneurial venture for the next chapter of his life. He has no wife, no children, and two cats with whom he does not get along. His girlfriend, however, “rocks his world” (her words), and Mr. Stone is happy to be back in his hometown of Los Angeles.

Jennifer Hargreaves '97 and Victor Adler

Jennifer Hargreaves '97 married Victor Adler in September.

Jennifer Hargreaves was married on Sept. 8 in Ross, Calif., to Victor Adler. They honeymooned in Banff, Canada, which was a strange, but safe!, place to be during Sept. 11. They currently live in Palo Alto and Jen still works at Intuit, the same high tech company she started with after graduation from Kellogg! She writes that she is constantly amazing people when they hear that a.) she actually has a job (the San Francisco market is pretty rough as we know) and b.) she never left Intuit for a dot-com.

Corrado Giaquinto married a charming French woman, Sylvie, in September. The ceremony was discreet with attendance limited to the Mafia family: Lalo Duina, Marco Azzaretti, Felix Ahlers, Vlad Barbieri, Kristin Dykema, Guillaume Darrousez, Orazio Costadura ’96, and Christian Darquier ’93. No babies are planned for the time being (but you never know). He is still happily working for Colgate-Palmolive at the Paris European Headquarters developing crazy new products that will hardly change the world.

Kelly (Long) McPhilliamy and her husband, Jim, welcomed the arrival of their first child, Connor, on May 20, 2001. He was 21 inches long and weighed 7 lbs., 13 oz. Kelly is still working in investment banking at Morgan Stanley and enjoys spending as much time as possible with her little boy.

Sandra Diaz finally left Sara Lee to join the multicultural marketing team at Sears, Roebuck and Co. in October. She is in charge of Hispanic branding and Asian marketing, and is really excited about the company’s commitment towards their diverse customers and employees. One of her first assignments has been to lead the production of Sears’ salsa/merengue concert stage at the Calle Ocho festival in Miami. Guess those LAHIMA social chair skills are coming in handy after all!

Michael Teh is still an international-man-of-leisure, enabling him to catch up with Manfred Ferber, Marie Kwek, Valerie Blin ’98 and Melanie Brownrout ’98 while passing through London last year. He’s currently in Sydney playing host to a string of international guests, including Julie Kim, who partied with him in Byron Bay; and at the time of writing, Alex Ooms and Heather Lamm ’98 were on their way too. Career-wise he’s still deciding between yoga instructor, rock or movie star.

Craig Witsoe and his wife Katie announce the birth of twins, Anna Marie and Ian Charles, born on Nov. 26. They also have a 2-year-old son, Connor. The Witsoes have been living in Shanghai, China since August 2000 where Craig is working as president, Asia-Pacific for GE Lighting.

KC Buckley married Fernando Merce Aug. 28 in Barcelona, Spain. Christina Heitz and her husband Doug Keiller, and David Perez ’03 and his wife Nicole, attended.

John McWeeny and Abby Scott were married under the redwood trees in Sonoma County, Calif. Sept. 29. Many Kellogg friends joined them for the occasion. Katy Turner Keim and Sal Saglimbeni were readers in their ceremony and Brenda Brown Boime, Patrick Flanagan and Andy Maner led the crowd singing “America the Beautiful”. Best men included John’s brothers, Peter McWeeny ’01 and Mark McWeeny ’99. Abby is the director of career services for Berkeley’s MBA Program (Haas).
