EMP-38

EMP-38 has been a busy group over the past few months. If you have news to share or can help me update your contact information, please drop a note to larry.brand@motorola.com.

Ed Ogata reports that his work as chief medical officer at Children's Memorial Hospital is continuing apace. He is concentrating on change and operations management, focusing on best practices. Ed has also expanded his role at Northwestern and has been named the Crown Family Professor in Pediatrics and associate dean of the medical school. What we really want to know, Ed, is when are you doing your next commercial?

Gary Weiss left Bank One in January for a new post as chief financial officer of the Northwestern Healthcare Medical Group. Gary is responsible for planning and analysis for the corporation.

Scott Etzler reports great success in his new career as president of Intercall, a Chicago-based business telephone conferencing provider. Anyone who wants to join other EMP-38 customers and help him push 2001 above the $125 million mark is invited to drop him a line at jetzler@intercall.com.

Betsy Finkelmeier has also moved, this time from above the diaphragm to below the diaphragm. Way to go, Betsy! Actually, she has changed careers from nursing with a heart specialization to women's health as director of women's health at Northwestern. Her first big project is to design a new women's hospital that is scheduled to open in 2005.

Dave Lucas sends greetings from Philadelphia. He is now president and CEO of Cruise411.com. His company markets and sells cruises on the Internet. Classmates are invited to send Dave a note at: dlucas@cruise411.com. Andy Martin was promoted from vice president of marketing to president and COO of Advance Publishers in Orlando, Fla. We understand Andy goes home for a quick swim at lunch; just another reason to hate him.

Ernest Lucineo sends greetings to his friends in EMP-38 from Atlanta. He has recently taken on responsibility for new product introduction for all BellSouth voice services (Advanced Intelligent Network and Messaging) for the nine-state region.

Rey Leon has been promoted at Baxter and is now responsible for manufacturing in a division with several plants around the world. Rey, call us from the plane!

Clyde Rundle and his wife Barb just had twin daughters. Jaclyn Ann and Abigail June are their names, and they're adorable (obviously taking after their mother). Clyde is vice president of human resources at McCook Metals and has given up that bad habit called "sleeping."

Jeff Vender has been appointed chairman of the Department of Anesthesiology and was an interim chairman at Northwestern Memorial Hospital for a year. No report on if he can do this while keeping his feet up on the desk like he did in class.

A note from our favorite funnyman Ian Heller: "I left GE Capital in 2000 to become vice president of marketing at Newark Electronics in Chicago (and in case you were about to ask, the answer is, "No, there is no company called ŚChicago Electronics' in Newark). Newark is a leading electronics distributor, owned by a British firm that has operations around the world (ADR's on the NYSE under ticker symbol PFP). It's been a terrific chance to jump back into marketing and distribution (which I missed dearly) and get some good international experience. We also moved to a home in Lake Bluff."
