EMP-32

Greetings to my classmates! I trust that you all enjoyed the holidays and are anxiously awaiting the arrival of spring. Unfortunately, I received only a single note, so this column will be short.

The note came from Patricia Shafer who wrote that she and Dan Haight finally went on their much-anticipated, much-delayed honeymoon to East Africa. Patricia and Dan took a 12-day photo safari to Kenya and Tanzania, and it surpassed anything they could have imagined.

As Patricia said: "It was unlike anything we had ever seen. It took three days to convince ourselves that we were not living out a scene from some movie Jurassic Park."

Unfortunately, as much as Patricia would have loved to send a couple of photos to include with this note, their 400-plus photos and eight hours of video are stuck in digital hell as they await a computer part! Anyone looking for tips on safari travel, or for photographic proof, can send an e-mail to Patricia at pshafer@carolina.rr.com.

The other big news with Patricia and Dan is that they are finally living together after marriage! Patricia resigned from her position as senior vice president of communications for the retail group of Bank One and moved to Charlotte, N.C., where Dan is vice president of marketing and sales for Bowater, Inc.

Their first joint goal is to find a house; Patriciašs first personal goal is to pursue several writing projects. She has one book manuscript that she started while at Kellogg, and is starting on a second. Their note ended with an open invitation to anyone, anytime, who wants to visit Charlotte, enjoy the spring-like conditions and hit one of North or South Carolinašs many golf courses.

Send me updates! Also, is there interest out there for a golf outing in late summer? Contact me and let me know.
