Bruce R. Cohen is Wrightwood Financial’s Chief Executive Officer. Mr. Cohen previously served as Chief Executive Officer of real estate investment firm Wrightwood Capital, which he founded in 2004. The firm generated more than $4 billion of investment activity from its start to the sale of its operating platform to global alternative asset management company Ares Commercial Real Estate in 2011. Mr. Cohen served as a Senior Partner at Ares Management, and President and Chief Operating Officer of Ares Commercial Real Estate, where he oversaw more than $1 billion of investment activity. Mr. Cohen retained oversight of the Wrightwood Capital portfolio, as well as its third party funds, and continues in this capacity in his current role.
Mr. Cohen holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of Chicago and a Bachelor of Arts from Tufts University. He is a member of the Urban Land Institute, the Pension Real Estate Association, the Commercial Mortgage Securities Association, and the Real Estate Roundtable, where he formerly served as the Co-Chair of the Real Estate Capital Policy Advisory Committee and Chair of the Research Committee. In addition, Mr. Cohen serves on the real estate advisory boards of the Kellogg School of Management and the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. He also serves on the boards of Wrightwood Capital and Erdman, a preeminent design-build firm focused on health care.
Mr. Cohen has been a guest lecturer at Kellogg School of Management, the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, Harvard Business School, University of Wisconsin Graduate School of Business, and Boston College. He has been published in The Wall Street Journal, Commercial Property News, and the Real Estate Finance Journal.
