Employment Statistics | 2000
Overview
1999-2000 continued the trend of diversity in student interests. While the number of recruiting organizations which have selected Kellogg as a target school remains above 300, the number of job postings on our Web site grew by 25 percent compared to last year.
Earlier this year, Fortune magazine ran a piece on the "Top 50 Companies Among MBAs". Of the companies on their list, 80 percent are traditional corporations. During the peak of recruiting, the media and others had us believing that students were mostly interested in small employers. However, in 1999-2000, 80 percent of our major employers (hiring 3 or more) were from traditional corporations.
How did the year end? Consulting remained our top industry employer. The addition of several new technology-consulting firms assisted in keeping these numbers at 33 percent. Banking saw an increase from 10 percent in last year to 14 percent and e-commerce doubled from 4 percent to 8 percent this year.
Kellogg students continued their migration to the West Coast. More than 20 percent of the class of 2000 began their new careers in the Bay Area, surpassing New York City as the #2 location for our graduates.
Kellogg's continued success across all industries is due to the combined efforts of the wonderful students, faculty, employers and administrators who have worked together to make 1999-2000 another successful year for the school. Thank you to all of you who have partnered with us. We appreciate your support and look forward to working with you again this year.
