Employment Statistics | 1997

Overview

Another record year! I believe that is what most of us in the MBA career services and recruiting arenas are thinking. 1997 was a great year for MBA recruiting, and we look to continue that trend in 1998.

Kellogg saw a 7.5 percent increase in on-campus recruiting organizations, with 313 companies coming to recruit on campus. When we add the number of companies that conducted interviews off campus, that number jumps even higher! In addition, we arranged close to 9,000 on-campus interviews for the Class of 1997 and over 4,000 correspondence opportunities were posted with us.

For the students, it was a wonderful year to be more thoughtful about the job opportunities they were to consider. Once again, consulting led the pack, with 38 percent of the class accepting jobs in the consulting field and 13 percent joining the investment banking industry. We continue to see a strong interest in the high-tech field; 9 percent of the class chose positions in that area.

We are excited about the continuing strength of the job market. We are optimistic that 1998 will be as strong a year as 1997. None of the good fortune we experience is possible without the support of a great team in the Career Management Center, wonderful students and a fabulous employer base. Thank you to all!
