Curriculum: HEMA Waiver Policy
HEMA Core Course Waiver Policy
Students who graduate with a HEMA major are expected to have a broad understanding of the health industry, including issues pertaining to providers, insurers, patients, and suppliers. Normally, students meet this breadth requirement by taking the core course, HEMA 440, Introduction to Health Enterprise Management.
Students who come exceptionally well prepared for the HEMA major, either through work experience or prior course work, may request a waiver for HEMA 440. Students who waive out of HEMA 440 will usually be required to substitute an elective course that also covers the breadth of the health industry as well as three additional courses to complete the major, for a total of four courses. In exceptional cases, it may be determined that the student who waives HEMA 440 may complete the major by taking three courses.
If you think that you may qualify for a waiver, please check the most recent HEMA 440 course syllabus. If you are already familiar with most of this material, then you should contact the Program Director or course instructor to discuss a waiver and alternatives to the core course.
