Greetings Fellow Alumni:
Board Officers Ted Pfieffer, Jason Scarlett, and myself
led a recent effort to update and focus the roles and responsibilities
of Alumni Board members. As I will be rotating out of the
Presidency (but remaining on the Board), the roles of the
new officers – President (Ted Pfieffer), VP/Treasurer
(Jason Scarlett), and Interim Secretary (Rebecca Wildman) – remain
as in the Association’s charter (bylaws). The member
roles, approved at a recent Board meeting, are as follows
(more than one Board member may be involved with the activities):
School Liaison -- facilitates
communication between the Board and school. Specific duties
include:
- Representative
to student club(s)
- Works
with Program staff on student scholarships/awards
- Identifies
opportunities to participate in and support student/alumni
activities
- Communicates
Association programs/activities to students
- Representative
to Kellogg Alumni Office
Programming -- develops
and coordinates events for Association members and non-members,
including speakers, symposia, and
networking events. Specific duties, in coordination with
Program leadership, include:
- Brainstorm
potential events, formats, and speakers
- Solicit
potential speakers
- Work
with Communications to develop promotional materials
Sponsor Development -- provides/coordinates
Board support of Program efforts to develop outside sponsors,
particularly
around programs (e.g. MacEachern). Specific duties, in coordination
with Program leadership, include:
- Establish
annual and per-event sponsorship goals
- Create/adopt
guidelines for solicitation of sponsors (in conjunction
with Program and School practices)
- Design
sponsorship opportunities
- Identify
potential/target sponsors
- Coordinate
sponsor solicitation
Communications -- develops
communication links with/among Association members, and
promotes Association events. Specific
duties include:
- Oversight
of Association web site maintenance and development
- Even
advertising and promotion
- Contributions
to Program newsletter
Membership Development -- grows the roster
of active (dues paying) Association members and coordinates
efforts in selection
of Alumni Award recipients. Specific duties include:
- Develop
and maintain member contact information
- Establish
annual membership goals
- Lead
outreach to potential members, including specific recruitment
of new healthcare/biotech
graduates
- Recommend
membership dues policies
- Induce/facilitate
members registration and dues payment
And, indeed, the Alumni Board is interested in adding some
additional members.
