Eligibility
Our application process is open to those who have a bachelor's degree (or equivalent in the case of foreign institutions) from an accredited college or university. There are many paths to Kellogg and our students come from a variety of undergraduate majors. Prior study in business or economics is not a requirement for application or admission.
Since the Kellogg Part-Time Program is designed to complement your career now and future goals, you need to have full time employment to apply. Likewise, once our students join Kellogg, the connection between the MBA and career progression continues as our students maintain a career-enhancing position while they attend Kellogg.
The Evening Program is an excellent option for those who can meet for classes in the evenings. Therefore, applicants to this program work and live in the Chicago area (this can include certain areas of Wisconsin and Indiana). Residency in the Chicago area is required for application to the evening program.
The Saturday Program is an option for anyone who lives in the area who cannot make it for evening classes, anyone with significant weekly travel, or anyone who lives beyond the Chicago area.
The Admissions Committee will evaluate your scholastic ability, qualities of character and motivation, evidence of leadership, and managerial promise. Both you and the school are best served by an admission policy that seeks assurance of scholastic success and potential for effective management performance.
Transfer of Credit to the MBA Program
If you have completed coursework at another AACSB-accredited graduate school of management or business, you may be eligible to receive credit toward your degree for up to four courses. Any transfer courses must be completed with a grade of B or higher; may not have been used toward completion of another degree; and must be similar in content to courses offered at the Kellogg School. Transfer credit is not included in the cumulative grade-point average.
If you apply and are admitted to Kellogg, you should submit your letter for transfer credit as early as possible after acceptance into the program. Your information must include an official copy of the transcript, catalog description and course syllabus.
Prospective Applicants with MBA Degrees - Visiting Graduate Student
If you already possess an MBA degree, or an equivalent degree, you are not eligible to study for an MBA degree in the Kellogg School‘s Part-Time MBA Program. However, within the program, we do make provisions for Visiting Graduate Student status (VGS).
The Visiting Graduate Student program provides the opportunity to complete up to three courses with Kellogg. In all cases, visiting graduate students are accommodated only after Kellogg MBA degree candidates are registered.
The following eligibility points apply to the Visiting Graduate Student program:
1. The program is an option for candidates living and working in the Chicago area who have completed an MBA. In this case, the VGS option is a 3-course supplement to an MBA earned from another institution. The VGS program is not designed for students in other MBA programs who wish to take Kellogg courses mid-stream or while they are with another Chicago-area programs.
2. The program is also an option for anyone who is relocated to the Chicago area prior to completing an MBA program already in progress. In this case, the VGS option can be used to complete final degree requirements for an MBA program already in progress. This candidate may transfer up to three courses back to the school of origin.
Visiting graduate students can take up to three classes but they do not have access to student career services or club events.
