Dr. Nicholas Pearce is a Visiting Assistant Professor of Management and Organizations and Dean’s Postdoctoral Fellow at Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management. He earned the S.B. in Chemical Engineering and Management from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, with a concentration in Religious Studies in conjunction with the Harvard Divinity School, and the M.S. and Ph.D. in Management and Organizations from the Kellogg School of Management. Pearce’s research examines institutional leadership, institutional complexity, and organizational change in diverse organizational contexts, ranging from the boardrooms of Fortune 500 corporations, to the halls of power in national governments, to the pulpits of America’s megachurches. His work has been published in scholarly outlets including Psychological Science and The Annual Review of Sociology. Professor Pearce and his work have also been featured in Time, Newsweek, Forbes, ABC News, MSNBC, The Boston Globe, and The Economic Times of India. He has been honored for excellence in scholarship and leadership by several organizations, including the Mustard Seed Foundation, National Black MBA Association, Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, Urban Business Roundtable, Ariel Investments, and Union League Club of Chicago.

Professor Pearce provides executive coaching and consults with several organizations on leadership, strategy, and human capital development. He was named a Leadership Fellow of the Northwestern University Center for Leadership in 2011. He is also a member of several professional organizations, including the Academy of Management, Management Faculty of Color Association, and National Black MBA Association, and served as the twelfth president of the PhD Project Management Doctoral Students Association. In addition to Professor Pearce’s academic and professional engagements, he is also a leader in the faith community. Since 2007, he has served the congregation of Chicago’s historic Apostolic Church of God, where he is currently Assistant Pastor.

The purpose of this course is to study the process of how people reach agreement and to develop an analytical framework for reaching more effective agreements. The course is designed for participants to observe and learn experientially through the use of role-playing exercises. In-class discussions and lectures serve to supplement the exercises.
