Apply
The application for Fall 2012 admission is closed. Applications for Fall 2013 admissions will be available in January, 2013.
To apply for the Certificate Program for Undergraduates, students must fulfill the following requirements:
- Maintain status as an undergraduate student at Northwestern University*
- Complete prerequisite courses
- Submit an online application
- Write an essay (300-400 words) explaining your interest in the program and your post-college plans
- Submit recommendation from one Northwestern University professor
Admissions offers are based on grades (both cumulative and in prerequisite courses), personal essay and a recommendation from one Northwestern University faculty member. (Please note: in prior years we asked for two faculty recommendations.) We review applicants' complete academic transcripts, with special emphasis on the more recent grades. Also of special interest is the student's GPA in the Certificate Program prerequisite courses. We look for overall academic accomplishment, recognizing that taking more challenging courses can have an impact on grades, as can special circumstances students may encounter at a given time. Please note that we look for a minimum average of 3.0 in the prerequisite courses.
Students may apply to only one certificate.
